I installed a overdrive made by borg warner. They originally came on Saginaw three speeds in the 60s. I had one of these transmissions that I had picked up a wile ago and so decided to transfer the over drive over to the 4 speed. It is prity easy to do since the main shafts are the same in my car. You just need the short mainshaft from the three speed that goes in to the over drive unit which replaces the tailhousing. Then there are two oil flow holes that must be drilled in the case and one hole for a lockout rod that locks the trany out of OD and locks up the one way clutch. The only other thing that must be done is a metal tab must be welded to the reverse shift shaft that will push on the lock out rod when shifted in to reverse and the lock our rod must be shortened to since the tab is farther to the back of the case then in the three speed. It runs great. It uses a electric solenoid for engagement and one way clutch on the output shaft to allow for shifting. Just fip the switch and let off just a little and it engages or you can wire it up with its governor that kicks it in about 30mph.
