Replacement Gas cap

The problem with these big part store chains is that the parts they recommend are not necessarily the best fit. I've been looking for a gas cap for my Monza (as many of you may know) and most of these store chains recommend the Stant locking gas cap shown below (about 3.75 inches wide?) for all years. I decided to go with the Stant part #10746 also shown below (4.25 inches wide) which is supposed to be a replacement for a Plymouth Volare but, as you can see, it fits like a glove.

I have enclosed a closer view of the gas cap. You'll notice how flush it sits to the body. It's a nice replacement gas cap and very easy to find.

Because this is a replacement for a Plymouth Volare, the handle will not sit completely horizontal when rotated into place (image 2A). What you may want to do (which is what I did with mine- image 2B) is take the handle apart (2 screws hold the valve to the handle) and redrill 2 new offsets on the valve plate. Once put back together it will thread into place pretty much like the original cap.

It is a Stant gas cap part #10746. It's nicely finished in chrome with a hard plastic handle. I picked mine up at an ACDelco Automotive Parts dealer.

Just a reminder that this is a replacement for the hard to find 4.25" cap. The 3.75" seems to be easily available based on the ebay listings I've seen.

I like the post on gas caps,, but do you or any one know what the stant # for the 3.75 smaller cap like the one on my 75 monza 2+2 hatchback,, Lost this morning leaving the fuel pump,,I heard it hit the ground from the perch on the rear window trim,, I out rounding up a "mounted posse" ( local equestrian's club said they will have some member's looking ,,,,sunday on the ride down the same road,,, boy they can really roll out of sight quick maybe we will have a contest at the strip roling gas cap lid's/caps,,,Mike

I didn't know '75 had a different cap. I just checked my 75 and 79, sure enough the 79 is bigger.

Have you considered painting the cap to match your body colour, like the original. A Spyder just doesn't look the same with a chrome cap for some reason.

Bryan, I ended up purchasing a 3.5" cap on e-bay and used the valve from that cap to replace the damaged one. I then had the old cap repaired and repainted.
My monza now has it's original cap back.
