Anyone know how to convert .MOV video files to MPeg, etc????

My camera makes .MOV file videos. Want to get it to a file Windows Movie Maker recognizes so I can edit it to get the file size smaller.

Anyone here know how to go about this?

I have a video of the car going across one of my favorite tight twisty roads just down the road from my house.... that goes to my Mom's.
I drove the car very, very, very hard. Shifting at red line in some places, downshifting and sliding around turns, greatly exceeding the speed limit, etc..... I mean really letting it have it.
Upon playback.... it looks like a little Sunday drive. It loses a lot of the excitement on camera. Boring.
It's just over 6 minutes but the size is too large to post on youtube(116M). I'm trying to get it to Movie Maker on my Windows Vista machine to edit it a bit to get below the 100M limit but it won't have anything to do with the .MOV video file.
Trying to see about getting the .MOV file converted to something Movie Maker recognizes.

.MOV is native to Quicktime (Mac).

Quicktime Pro is like $30. Or you may be able to find a plug-in interpreter for Windows Media??? I'm Mac based, and believe me, I hate each progression of WMV files, cause Mr. Bill doesn't like Mr. Jobs, so each of them have to try to be better than the other. But do some serious searching, there's always a work-around converter available.

If you hit a wall, email me. Converting video is kids' play on a Mac (I'm not bragging, I've just used Apple products since 1982 and was a programmer in a former life).

Without the g-forces of the live experience, that happens. I have hours of in-car video from autocross, track lapping days, etc. I thought the videos would be useful for getting others interested but they have the opposite effect because it seems SO SLOW. Just play it back at 2x speed. :)

I just heard from a fella at work that there may be a free download somewhere that might do the converting...... I'll have to search this weekend.

Monzamess,
I definitely see how it would have the opposite effect. I couldn't believe how .......sssssslowwww it seemed. I was embarassed to post it.

Mike, I also use an old "cassette" or analog camcorder. I use an A/D video converter that connects through firewire. You should weigh the cost between replacing or finding a cheap A/D converter. Most converters should be bundled with some type of basic recording and editing software.
