8 track player for Spyder

Postby jakewegner » Tue Sep 19, 2017 1:00 pm

Anyone know where I can find an 8 track player for my 1980 Spyder? Mine was removed when they added new tac and I'd like to figure out how to stick one in and possibly move the tac. I've not had any luck watching eBay for a factory spare part and thought maybe one of you might have one or know someone who does

Most of the cars I have had were all AM only, I did have one and it is sadly gone now to a fellow H-Body enthusiast in Europe. I think posting here and living on eBay will get you the win you want. I would also suggest that you just search for the radio/tape player without the model as I am sure AC Delco put that same radio in many, many, many, GM products. I don't remember if mine had GM or Chevrolet if any brand or just AC Delco on the face plate so, a little homework will be required for that search. There is also another option however it is a cosmetic match but most would also consider an upgrade you can go with "Custom Autosound" or "Retro Autosound" as a replacement if no joy is found with your search. Harry http://customautosoundmfg.com/ [painfully the Monza/Vega is no longer listed but an e-mail couldn't hurt on either of these sites] or https://www.retromanufacturing.com/page ... dimensions

The H-body dash(both Vega and Monza) takes the same radio as a 1978-1981 Camaro/Firebird, as well as a lot of other similar vintage GM vehicles. Shouldn't be too hard to find an OEM Delco AM/8-track, AM/FM/8-track or even an AM/FM/Cassette. Any number of aftermarket radios from Custom Autosound or Retro Sound will fit as well.

Yeah, I guess I'm "up on this stuff"; as in I'm far enough "up in years" to have installed radios in these cars when they were new. In 40 years(!!!!!), I've seen the aftermarket audio business progress through 8-track, cassette, CD, DVD, MP3, I-Pod, hard drive, flash drive, Bluetooth and now the coolest thing yet, Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
