A compression test and leakdown test would give an idea of condition of engine. I would start by changing the valve stem seals. I'm on long island and am getting ready to do the same in a 75 monza with the vega motor. I just bought the factory tools to remove the camshaft and valve springs.
It does run good otherwise. Frankly nothing wrong with it that I can tell. I drive it on weekends, takes off well, Got lots of pep. Next weekend I plan on changing the oil, Ill take some video of what I'm talking about. It's whenever I hit the gas, POOF blue smoke. But also lets say I been driving for an hour, when I come to a light I see smoke from the tail pipe come up.
It runs good otherwise, but here's a video of what Im talking about. btw I put photos of the plugs, they all had yellow deposits on them. https://youtu.be/2qm9eAEWXfo

That is all low speed off idle driving. Does it clear up when on highway? Is there a big cloud when first starting after sitting overnight. plugs don't look bad. They look new though - what did old ones look like?

Well, I have a running original engine, I’m about to pull it out and replace it soon, don’t know how soon you’re looking to purchase one but thought I would mention it

Is your car a 2 barrel? There is a guy on Facebook selling a 74 vega engine that he as a video of it running good. Looks like head or entire engine has been gone through. Email me at monzaaddict at lycos dot com if interested. He is putting a v8 in car and letting engine go cheap.

~ No one posted about the 74 valve cover PCV location. In 75 they changed the location of the PCV valve insert on the valve cover to a higher location. Although your video shows light smoke, my guess is blowby. With the 74 valve cover, I have seen excessive"thick" smoke result from oil sucking into the PCV valve at higher RPM's though. The cure for that is to change out the valve cover with one from a 75 or newer.
~ I still have the L4-140 4cyl with knurled valve guides, and fresh cam bearings, valve guide seals, cylinder liners, rings...with only a couple of thousand miles on it...running when removed, NO SMOKE, Offie intake...on an engine stand, wrapped up....For Sale...in Florida. If you need it.
