9 sec sleeper? NEEDS DETAILING?

Postby mldeolde » Sat Jul 01, 2006 11:30 am

WAS JUST LOOKING AT A MONZA TOWN COUPE PRO STREET CAR ON E-BAY FROM CAR1321 IN MARYLAND. SOME OF YOU DRAG GUYS CHIME IN AND FILL ME IN. HE CLAIMS 9.40'S WITH NITROS IN THIS THING"looks pretty shabby in the engine compartment" and is only running a 10 bolt with a spool. it this really possable or has this guy forgotten to take his meds today. check it out and let me know what you think. from the looks of the engine compartment i guess you could call it a sleeper cause it shure dosent look like something that would run 9's to me.

Postby mldeolde » Sat Jul 01, 2006 6:46 pm

WELL IT'S NICE TO KNOW THAT I HAVEN'T TOTALLY LOST MY ABILITY TO RECOGNISE A KATRINA VICTOM. I FIND IT QUITE AMAZING THAT ANY ONE WOULDN'T TAKE A LITTLE TIME AND EFFORT TO AT LEAST MAKE IT LOOK AT CLEAN TO GIVE IT A LITTLE CREDABILITY. ANYBODY KNOW THIS GUY?

JUST NOTICED SOMETHING NEW-STATES HAD $8,000.00 in motor. HAS IRON HEADS AND LOOKS TO HAVE FACTORY STYLE CAST IRON WATER PUMP ALL THE RIGHT STUFF YOU WOULD EXPECT TO FIND IN AN $8000.00 MOTOR. THE MORE I LOOK THE MORE I CHUCKLE.

yeah, i didn't want to say too much in case it was someone on this site that listed it...but I sure wouldn't buy it. Where's the nitrous....3.73 rear.....waay overcarbed ....and like you mentioned -Katrina victim- it just doesn't add up for what it's claimed to have done. hell, i paid $5,000 for my turn-key car, and it does 11's...I think that car would be lucky to go 13's. maybe 9's in the 1/8th mile....lol

I'm not a drag racer, but that thing looks fishy to me.

Doesn't appear to be anything done to the rear end externally...don't you guys make spring/airbag/lower control arm mods to run that fast?

No roll bar padding in a 9 sec car? 9 seconds on 10" tires and no tubs? How does the guy really know how fast it is when the nitrous is gone? Rubber fuel lines and hose clamps?

Wonder how it stops, still with a power brake booster but no vacuum hooked to it? Are those door bars legal?

And someone please tell me something else...who coined the term 'Rat Rod'? what the :censored: is a Rat Rod? I've been seeing that alot lately.

BAREBONES-YOU MUST BE TO YOUNG TO NO THIS . ITS A OLD TIME NAME FOR THE SHODDY LOOKING HOT RODS OF THE 40'S AND 50'S THAT WER USUALLY PUT TOGETHER ON A SHOE STRING BUDGET AND WERE COMMONLY ALL GO AND NO SHOW. KIND OF THE OPPOSET OF MOST OF TODAYS HOT RODS WHERE THE IMPORTANCE HAS BEEN PLACED ON LOOKS OVER FUNCTION. THE OLD ONES LOOKED PRETTY RATTY THEREFORE THE NAME RAT RODS.
