Postby erock805 » Mon Jul 03, 2006 9:06 pm

Does anyone have an idea which is better the Don Hardy motor mounts and headers or the Hooker conversion? Do they still sell the Don Hardy headers new?

Sorry first post so you prob have already discussed.

Welcome to the boards, Erick..

I prefer Hooker.. I haven't used the Don Hardy mounts but the Hooker ones work great if you aren't intending to run a lot of accessories..

LAter,

thanks Colin, I have two sets of Hooker and one set of Don Hardy on the way. I liked the way the Don Hardy's looked. I thought the mounting location was better farther back on the block...but just a guess. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Erick,
I modified my mounts so that they didn't require water pump mounting. I posted a pic here somewhere.. I'll repost it again for you..

They look bad because my bandsaw is a piece of junk. I'm going to make a new set and have them powdercoated.. At least you'll have an idea how mine are different.

I saw that in your profile...lottsa work man. Its gunna be awesome.

I picked up my Vega with a hooker conversion from the second owner. Since i have both i will mock them up at some point and see which works better.

I had hoped someone had some experience with the different kits...which headers produced more power or something of the like. thanks for the input.

I'm really thinking it. I think this coming Friday may be a possiblity. Not early in the day, but right before it gets dark, MAYBE. I think that is the furthest I would want to take it right now, which is unfortunately only 2 miles away.

I've had both in my car. I prefer the Don Hardy setup for an aesthetic and ease of access standpoint, but I don't like how the headers exit under the car. The come out at a 45 degree angle, which will require some tricky exhaust manuevering.

I have the Hardy mounts on my 72 Vega.

I agree with Brian. I love the way the Hardy mounts look and work on the car. For years in the early 80's people would comment on how factory the install looked. For me the Hardy mounts just look like they were designed for the car whereas the Hooker mounts remind me of a motor plate from a drag car. NOT that that is a bad thing ! :D Just different.

I also agree about the Hardy headers , I do not like how the exit . A strange angle.
