Maybe it sucked up some dirt

Marco,

If the sock had a hole it is possible that your pump ingestedsome dirt and was getting jammed up. If you have a fuel filter I'd recommend changing it as it could be partially plugged and can also be responsible for the symptoms you describe. hopefully it was the fuel pump.
