Stripped Torx bolt removal - two pics for those on dial up

All You guys missed my favorite option, and one I've used many times :)

Grab a dremel or other rotary type tool and cut a nice long slot straight across the head of the bolt.... Then grab the BFS (Big Freaking Screwdriver) and i'm sure you can figure out what to do next :)

I used this method on an inverse Hex lugnut once... was skeptical of it working, but with my BFS, a pair of good vise grips around the handle, and a 4ft pole over the end of the visegrips, it popped quick :)

Also, requires the least amount of work....

I like the idea of the jam nuts.........

The dremel would be great if I could get to it. The pic up above doesn't do it justice. The nut is flush up against the seatbelt retracter and it is 3 or so inches below the top of the retractor. No way to get a cutting wheel to it!!!!!!

No big rush........... Dude that was supposed to come look at the body tomorrow is not gonna be able to do the bodywork at all. Trying to get a normal job so he can buy a house........... at least that's what my buddy told me tonight.
Needless to say, I'm a bit unmotivated again.............

Stubborn bolts...

Dwight,
The only thing I can think of to try is to drill the bolt out. Since you broke off a drill bit in the head of the bolt, you'll have to use a chisel or punch to break it out. Start with a small bit and drill just deep enough that you are through the bolt head and into the shank of the bolt. Use progressively larger drill bits until the head of the bolt comes off. At that point the bolt that is left in the hole should be thin enough that it will come out easily from below. If not, keep drilling the shank of the bolt until it is very thin. The key is drilling the center of the bolt, and drilling straight into it. I've seen someone drill out a bolt using this method...when he finished drilling, the only thing left of the bolt was the threads, and they came out pretty quick afterwards.

Did you use any kind of lubrication when you were drilling before? You should use something.. I'd use WD-40 or a synthetic lubricant. You have to prevent that bit from getting really hot.

I've always used lubricant and never had a problem breaking bits.

Yeah, I use WD40, or my favorite when available, KROIL.....
I simply got too aggressive at the wrong angle with the little pilot bit. SNAP!

No chance to buy a welder at current financial situation. Something that would be rarely used...... and I suck at welding.....

Time to close this post. I'm not messing with it for a while.
I diverted all attention and some money(nifty load balancer thingy) to the removal of the 215 from the car, now. IT'S OUT! :lol:

I'll worry about the bolt at a later date when the carpet is ready to be installed.......... quite some time I'm sure..
