With the original Formula Front Air dam, sweet. Needs a lot of work to be a show car again, but a hell of a base to begin with.

Should be an easy restore other than the "hard to find" center caps. Doug in Az 8)

You are looking at quite possibly the rarest pontiac produced.

Ok maybe not THE rarest, but in the top 3.

Maybe the rarest chev/pontiac ever.

Anyone know just how many were built?

Those "hard to find" center caps, do they look like this?

Ok Marco, One of 63 (notchbacks). Whats the rarest three parts on that car? The radiator, the radiator support and the hood support rod. Is that a formula without decals or could the spoilers be ordered without the formula package? See the way the rubber bumper pads on the rear are spread wide? mines not like that. Is that a Formula thing?
I ran the license plate thru the BAR site and the last time it was smogged was 2002 in N. Hollywood. My car was sold thru Prestige Pontiac in Van Nuys which isn't far from N. hollywood if the car stayed local it could have been on the lot when mine was. OK a long shot, I know.

You couldn't get a Formula without the decal package, there was no seperate Spyder-like equipment and appearance packages offered by Pontiac.

The rear bumper guards are very widely spaced, looks awkward and not a Formula thing either.

It certainly looks like it would be an original Formula. Judging from the pictures, all the vinyl trim and Formula badging have been removed, plus the air damn, side valances and rear section has been repainted black instead of the original gold colour. You can see evidence of the original gold on the front airdam where the black has been chipped off.

Rarest part, the front air dam, no question ... #2, the rear spoiler, #3 - pick'em !!!

D80 was the RPO Code for the rear deck spoiler for the Sunbird so it looks like you could order a Sunbird and slap on a spoiler, but I can't find anything for the front air dam, which leads me to believe it was a Formula-only item.

Bryan, the tall radiator & support are V8 Sunbird exclusive ( I believe) aren't v8 Sunbirds rarer than Formulas? About 130 for 78 and not many more for 79 if I'm not mistaken.

One other little bit of Formula trivia I have learned this week is that the Formula Steering Wheel NK3 required the tilt wheel option N33. This Coupe has the correct center arrowhead Emblem for an H-body (actually any non F-body with a Formula Wheel) It was probebly a Black and Gold Car.

And I agree tha Along with the 77 Astre Formula, a Sunbird V-8 Coupe with Formula Package would be in the 10 5 rarest Pontiacs of the 70's.

I have a Question for the experts though, Marco? Does the Formula package include Blacked out gills & Side window moldings on the Sunbird also? Or just the Astre? See the link to the possible 77 Astre Formula I just bought in the San Diago area. Maybe if someone out east buys this Sunbird, we can work out a deal on shipping 2 cars east from CA.

Blacked-out gills???

The Formula, like the Spyders, Road Hawks etc did come with black treatment, grills (77-80), window molding (79-80), rear end panel (77-80), black windshield wipers (80) and tailamp bezels (80).

The years may not be completely accurate, just what I have found in the various Lit I have acquired over the years but Pontiac may not have listed every single detail each time they printed up a dealership sales manual (which is exactly the case with other H-Body Lit I have).

But, every single Formula press photo I have and anything pics I've seen show blacked-out window treatment for all years!
