E27 Sunbird

Postby SunbirdMan » Mon Mar 10, 2008 2:58 pm

Ok, for a little review, '78-'80 Sunbird Notchback coupes come in two flavors, M27 Sunbird Sport and E27 Sunbird. A few months ago I bought a downloadable Pontiac parts catalog on Ebay and several times the E27 is mentioned and it always seems to have "w/Y94" next to it. One entry it has "S Y94". So I search the net and the only GM RPO code reference I could find is '82 Pontiac J2000 S" option. There's that "S" again. Out of curiosity, I'm asking if anyone has a E27 coupe with the build sheet and if there is a Y94 entry, and what does it say it is? Thanks.

Hmm.

I have an 80 Sunbird Coupe and the original build sheet, I'll check later tonight to see what code it has...

according to my build sheet to my old 1980 sunbird coupe, the "y94" is a "sunbird delet". i will only assume that this means some sort of emblem delete, but if i recall it had the sunbird emblems

Thanks. Bryan may be interested in adding that to his RPO list. Do you remember if there was a Sunbird emblem on your dashboard? I could swear mine didn't have one but that dashboard is long gone.

My build sheets are pretty beat up on the bottom, but it's interesting looking at them. I realized, I never looked at them closely before, kind of cool..

My Model number is either 2HM27 or ZHM27, I can't make out the first digit, but I am assuming the M27 is the Code your talking about? That makes mine a Sunbird Sport Coupe?

Anyways, mine also has the: Y94 SUNBIRD DELET
I checked my dash pad, as someone mentioned, and only emblem it has is "Sunbird" on the far right of the dash..

I checked all my RPO codes against the list here:
http://monza.homestead.com/files/RPOcodes.htm

And the Y94 is missing and one other I have on mine:
62B TAN CLOTH
62B Also shows up in the "TRIM" box next to "MODEL"

Interesting stuff... Mine looks to have been built at the Lordstown 16 Plant, although there could be a digit missing before the 1 in 16, and charged to Ricky Smith Pontiac in Weymouth, MA...

Yeah, according to my 78 Fisher body Manual (and others), 2HM27 is a Sunbird Sport Coupe and E27 is a Sunbird Coupe. Whatever the hell Y94 SUNBIRD DELET is, its interesting that your M27 came with it. My old 77 Sunbird had a sunbird emblem on the trunk but I just figured they dropped that on all Sunbirds after 77.

I will look at my build sheet on my 79 when I get home and see what it says. Mine has nothing on the trunk, only on the fenders and dash pad.

Send me a PM to remind me about this new RPO Code so I can add it to the list of codes on my website. I'm at work presently and I'm sure I'll forget to add it when I get home tomorrow.

If any of you find a code i don't have, send it to me so I can add it to the list. Trying to build the ultimate RPO Code list online for the 2nd Gen stuff.

My 79 Sunbird is a 2HM27 with the Y94 delete as well. Bryan, I will have to compare my build sheet to your site to see if I have any other different codes. I also have Sunbird on the far right side of my dash.

The "Y94 SUNBIRD DELET" means no big Sunbird decal on the hood. Most Sunbirds came without the decal and will have the "Y94 SUNBIRD DELET" on the build sheet......no, I'm just kidding. I'd like to know what it means too. I don't have a Sunbird but inquiring minds want to know.

Y94 had to be ordered to. Avoid the car coming with a big sunbird type decal on the side of the car..big like the size of the 1980 Monza decals. I got lucky to have seen this 1 time in my life...never again.. it's very very rare 99% of dealer orders deleted it...and most customers did too. It was a marketing decision by Pontiac for 1980. When dealers began getting their first shipments and screaming about the decals making the cars unsellable they came out with the Y94 rpo. Instead of just cancelling the decal all together. So very few cars ever had it.
