tach and gauges

Postby peterpan » Thu Jun 19, 2008 12:29 pm

i wanted to run better gauges than the stock vega ones
but i didn't want to mount them under the dash in the triple gauge mounting bracket

so this is what i came up with they are 1.5 inch gauges and a 3 3/8ths tach

they don't match the gas gauge and speedo very well

Looks good though, maybe that speedo pointer should go Red to better match the other gauges?
Years ago I replaced my gt clock for a small oil pressure gauge, looked like it belonged there.

I think if the needles were red it would all look like it belongs.

thanks for the suggestion i'll try that

i could of got a matching gauges tach and speedo including the gas gauge but that would of been over 300 bucks

these are going in my 75 that is going to be just a fun driver i couldn't see spending that much just so it would all match for this car

i cut the clear plastic off that covered the alt, temp and the clock cause it interfeared with the rest of it sitting flush over the tach, speedo and fuel gauge

the gauges have the glass on them so its hard to tell i cut it

you had a oil light with a oil pressure gauge ?

I'm sure you know this, but since the dash is already out. The gauges come out real easy to paint the needles. Great idea. Before you put the dash back in, now is the time to add all the Dynamat/hushmat/fatmat to the cowl area. I'm sure all your brown insulation stuff fell out like mine did! Oh, yeah. Also changing out all the light bulbs is a lot easier now too.

this dash was a spare i had incase i destroyed it putting the gauges in witch i pretty much did it can't go back to factory gauges ever again but it fits the aftermarket ones good now

while i change it out i will check the insulation thats a good thought and i am wiring in the lights for the gauges so i will probably only use 4 or so of the original lights

Here's where I'm at. Tryig to fit a 75 heater into a 72. Dash had to come out because the air ducts are different at the bottom. Before and during. Hopefull there will be a finished picture soon!

Are your new gauges mounted to the backside of the front cover or did you somehow mount them in the original spaces? A couple more pictures would be great.

Thanks,
Dick
