Window Tint?!?

Postby vegaman04 » Wed Jul 12, 2006 4:43 pm

A buddy of mine is looking to put window tint on his monza, does anyone have any pictures.

Ive got 15% on my p/u and been pulled over for doing a U-turn with a little burnout and cop didnt say anything.
Also got pulled over in the work van and back five windows have limo and no problems there. Numerous friends have gotten fix it tickets or it even scraped off during the stop.

How dark is too dark for you?

Not to be a stick in the mud........ but, I have mixed feelings about window tint.
-Great for saving the interior from the damaging sun's rays.
-Not so great for saving the lives of law enforcement officers.

Personal experience in a traffic stop involving drugs, with a '73 Monte Carlo that had heavily tinted windows, where the occupants were not willing to roll down the windows when challenged. It left me a bit un-nerved. The car was bouncing and rocking about as they were frantically moving around inside. Didn't know if they were stowing/hiding their stash or retrieving weapons. Practically ended my law enforcement career. They were merely trying to hide their stash...... luckily.

Just FYI........ if anyone is ever pulled over (for routine traffic violation-not a felony stop)and you have tinted windows, it would be in your best interest if you can be easily seen, by rolling your windows down, turning on your interior light and placing your hands plainly in sight on the top of the steering wheel.......
Off my soapbox, now.

Here is my full mirrored side windows. Iv'e had this one this way for over ten years and my first one in 1977 were mirrored. I've never been pulled over for them and the cops have had plenty of opertuneities. On the other hand, i'd never try this to the rear window or the front door windows.

States normally have a legal limit to how dark it is allowed to be. Here in Fl it is common for cops to carry a meter that actually measures it if they pull you over. So if you have it tinted just dont go darker than the legal limit in your state and you cant get a ticket for it.
They make a remover specifically for window tint. I bought it at my car lot many times, it has a strong ammonia smell to it. Laquer thinner or Prep Sol really arent as effective as you would like them to be. Basically you still have to scrape off the tint, then you use the remover to get the glue off. Its a real PITA.

Well, i can understand where you are coming from bugdewde.

I think here in WI the legal limit is 50% on the front/driver pass. windows and the back is 35%. Stock windows in my truck are 15% and i had the front two matched. In my van i have limo, which is like damn close to 0. Yes, they carry meters here aswell.
One way to get around that is to prove that the windows were tinted from dealership.
