The death of a spyder

Postby 77 Spyder » Wed Jul 12, 2006 10:38 pm

a few weeks back, I had to bring my spyder of 18 years to its final
destination. It was a sad day, but the car had already seen its best ones.

I have had many, many cars in my life to this point, & this was only the second car I had scrapped, instead of sold. I stripped everything worthwile off of it.

These pictures are not for those with a weak stomach....

Shit. That rear was still good. My Dad would have bought it, I'm sure.

I can see many parts that were still good. Marker lights, door handles, front bumper trim to name just a few. If those parts were left on I'm sure there were a lot of others.

It really wasn't that great. I had true duals ran out the passengers side & the pipes were too close to the bumper. It was warped pretty bad from the heat. The trim on the bumper itself was dinged up too. What was still there looks better than what it really was. I tried to remove the front cover, wich was not too bad, but the fasteners were so rusted It was a nightmare to get them off. I gave up, in a rush to get to the recyclers before they closed that day.

The front trim was also dinged. I think I have other pictures if you wanted to see them.

Trust me, I felt bad enought about it, but it really photo's better than what was there. The hood even had many dents in it :(

comon guys..... The windshild had major wiper scratches in it. I am not one to junk nice stuff. there really wasn't much good, & I have everything that was stored above my garage.

I'll post some better pictures so you can see how bad it really was.

Are windsheilds still being made for these? I broke the "pefect one" in my 77 while trying to remove it. Your making me nervious on that one. Second time I head something about that.....

Those are great pics,, thanks for sharing.

Looks like it was a little wet at the crushers, so it appears shiny, and too nice for the pics, but I'm sure it was time.

I've done my share of dismantling and scrapping these cars. Its hard..I dont think I could have snapped those pics, without going "waaaaaiiiiiitttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! noooooooooo!!!"

Scrapping an H Body

Postby vega_man_larry » Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:02 am

I've presided over the death of a couple myself. The hardest was my blue wagon. The attachment points for the suspension on the LH side of my car were almost rotted through. I didn't feel safe in the car because of all the underbody rot. Yours looks alot worse than mine did. It definitely was time to send it to the crushers.
