Spicer upper ball joints for 71-77 Vega

Postby gotmud7 » Fri Feb 27, 2009 10:20 pm

Is Spicer a good brand for upper ball joints? I've been looking for Moog, but hard to find. I'll pass on the $18 Mevotech ones. What's a good price for good uppers if I can find them?
The only Vega's that only had a little rust were the ones still on the assembly line.

Link to Mevotech "adjustable" ball joints. Pretty cool. Never saw this before.

Gotmud,

I work for the parent company of Spicer (now Raybestos Chassis as of the first of the year), and the premium line (without the "B" suffix) is an excellent quality product. Unfortunately, we haven't had an H-body upper ball joint available for a few years now. So, if you have found someone with some, they must have some stored old stock if they have any at all. Not saying that the product is bad, just that it may be the "wild goose chase" that others have experienced ordering from mail-order companies.

The adjustable ball joint shown from Mevotech is for 4-wheel-drive vehicles with solid front axles. If you look at the stud, you'll notice that it is not a ball, but cylindrical shaped. It will not swing, just pivot around the axis. Moog sells a similar product.

I can get quality upper ball joints (same as I have on my car) but don't know for how long. If anyone needs a set let me know. cjbiagi@yahoo.com

And why does everyone dislike Mevotech so much? I don't have any experience with them but I'd like to know why everyone doesn't like them!

I think someone ordered them and they didn't fit.

Unfortunately there are a lot of manufacturers and stores who say they can get parts and they turn out to be wrong. I don't know how you can do business like that but it happens way too often. Parts are listed and then they are either unavailable or wrong. That's why when I get parts for people I don't ask them to pay until I get them and make sure they are correct.
