The tires came in this morning, got em mounted at an awesome Discount Tire on University Ave in St Paul.

After day two at Car Craft RSE, our Vega is now leading the autocross, and tied for 1st in the lauch box, I have to hit the dyno by 11am tomorrow, gonna open the bottle and hope for the best.

My primary competition is my friend Randy Johnson, who won this event with his Schwartz Chassis equipped 66 Chevelle in 2008.
He's running a 2nd gen Camaro with IRS and a supercharged LS, he put down 604 hp to the wheels today.

I can pull off an upset if I win 2 out of three and finish 2nd in dyno

This is encouraging! I've been wanting to stuff an aluminum 5.3 in my Vega since the day I bought it. My biggest fear has been that it would be too nose heavy. Apparently that isn't a problem.

Oh! yeah, kick ass out there. You're doin' us proud.

We ended up finishing 2nd in the muscle car (Pre 1982) class at the 2010 Car Craft Real Street Eliminator Shootout.
Our scores were tied for 1st in Lauch box, 2nd in AX and 3rd on Chassis Dyno. I could have won with a little more suspension dialing in and if the NOS wouldnt have malfunctioned on the dyno.
Here's an AX video.

Thanks, here's another vid of some other cars on the same course, note the Vega was faster than all of these and ran a best of 38.90 seconds.

Hey guys. Thanks for the comprehensive documentation. Maybe we should get a copy over to the "project journals" board? Just so it doesn't get lost in the Generals.

I got a couple specific questions for you:

I noticed you have removed the gussets on the rear axle tunnel. Did just weld thicker sheet metal in place with clearance? I'm having the same problem with my rear GM calipers.

I had a buddy tell me about your autoX performance at the CarCraft Summer Nats. He mentioned that you were only beat out by a pretty nasty Corvette. I was wondering how the 225's were working out? The fronts are the same, right? Any traction problems?

You mentioned that you aren't running a rack steering system. Did you make any modifications to the front steering geometry?

Thanks!

Yes, thicker metal and reshaped to clear caliper. No traction issued with 225's all around.
No changes to steering geometry, we did use a Flaming River 16-1 box.
Since Car Craft Nats, We recently modified the front sway bar by shortening the arms and adding heim joint end links, also now running a s10 extreme rear bar, also modified with heim jt end link. These changes Im testing tomorrow at the Milwaukee Mile, high speed autocross.
Here's some recent pics.
