Hmm, I thought we had a sticky about this. If not, it's time.

You have two options.

1) You can put the pictures on some other server--imagebucket, car domain, whatever you want. Then when you write you post here on h-body.org, you include "bbcode" that links to the picture. Most picture services provide you with the links for you to cut-and-paste into your message. They will look something like this (starting with the img tag):
Code: Select all
  [img]http://pictureservice.com/whatever/pic.jpg[/img]

OR

2) You can upload the pictures here as attachments to your message. The picture can be any resolution (800x600, 3000x2000, whatever) BUT the file size must be less than 256K. If your picture is too big, Windows XP has "Image Resizer," or you can use an online service like http://www.drpic.com/ . Once you have your picture in the right file size, click the "Upload Attachment" tab on the same page where you type in your message. You will then see a place where you can browse to the file on your computer and then upload it. You can upload a lot of attachments.

Other suggestions are welcome. I'll make this a sticky.

Are your pictures too big for the web? What to do?

I use this free program that does batch resizing, renaming etc.

Thanks Zeke!! I was finally able to post pics of the Sunbird on the "Garage" of our site! They turned out great, and I also included pictures of the custom exhaust and the 15x8 in. wheels that we were sizing up to eliminate serious modifications to the H-body's for those of us wishing to stay as original as possible. Thanks for all of your help, Ron...
now if I could just get a pic for the Avatar to size...that must be a different animal...

It takes me a while to figure out stuff on the WWW . I use this site " Free Picture Resize Starter " was easy for me to figure it out . In the spot for picture size I've been typing in 600 width and it automatically puts in the height , then hit save and it saves it to the same spot you had it on your computer .

OK..... Hope this helps some of you new guys... or guys that aren't all that knowledgeable in the ways of computers.
It's a basic step-by-step tutorial on how to: 1) resize pics 2) post pics using 2 methods.

I'll show you how I resize and load pictures on the forum ..... this is how "I" do it. There may be other/better ways, but this is how I do it with Windows Vista "Paint". "Paint" comes on almost every Windows system computer.... it's in "Accessories" folder. Click on the "Start" button(multi-colored windows logo in Vista) in the lower left corner of your computer screen.
Go to <Accessories, then < Paint.... to access the program.

First off, there are TWO ways that I know of to post pictures on this forum.
METHOD 1. - "UPLOAD ATTACHMENT" :
Copies the photo from your computer to the forum.
THIS METHOD REQUIRES THE PICTURE TO BE SMALLER THAN 256 KB IN SIZE.
Most people will have to resize their pictures to use this method (I'll explain how shortly).

METHOD 2. - "Using the "IMG" tab :
Accesses the photo from a photo-hosting site somewhere other than your computer (photobucket, cardomain, motortopia, etc).

See pic below:
NOTICE.... YOU MAY HAVE TO ENLARGE THE INSTRUCTIONAL PICS I'VE POSTED BY CLICKING ON THEM TO MAKE THE INSTRUCTIONS I'VE MARKED IN RED TO BE VISIBLE.......
USING THE SCROLL BARS TO MOVE THE PIC TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AS WELL AS DOWN WILL HELP YOU SEE MY ADDED INSTRUCTIONS.
I've put the major mouse clicks or key strokes in RED.

two methods.jpg

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you want use method #1 to post pictures directly from your computer, they must be smaller than 256 kb in size.

Here's how to RESIZE your pics ,IN 3 BASIC STEPS, using the "Paint" program mentioned above -- which is included on just about any Windows operating system.... free, no downloads or anything.

-First, select the picture on your computer that you want to post.
-Now, notice it's size (it's got to be under 256 kb). You can mouse over the picture (no click) and it's properties/size might pop up. Or you can click on the picture ONCE (not a double click) and it's properties/size will show at the bottom of the screen, as I've shown.

If picture is greater than 256 kb you'll have to re-size it.
Here's how to do it in the Windows "Paint" program.... using 3 basic steps:

1. Click "Image" tab
2. then "Resize/Skew"
3. I've found that a 60% reduction works for this particular picture's size (430-ish kb). You may have to check a couple of times to get below 256.

Notice how I went back to the original folder on my desktop to see the new size of the pic..... you may have to resize a couple times to get below 256k.

Once you've re-sized your picture to less than 256 kb in size (as described above), you can use

METHOD #1: UPLOAD ATTACHMENT
Attaching pictures from your computer.... if they are smaller than 256 kb in size.

This Upload Attachment method involves about 6 basic mouse clicks:
1. Browse for pic
2. Choose pic
3. Add the File
4. Place Inline
5. Preview
6. Submit

NOTE: if you click on the attached pics I've included as reference, some of the info might not appear as it may be just off-screen. Use the scroll bars UP/DOWN and LEFT/RIGHT to see the complete attachment.... as there are steps to follow and you don't want to get out of step.

Use the "UPLOAD ATTACHMENT" tab if you have pictures on your computer that are smaller than 256 KB is size.... if not, see my post above on how to resize pictures using "Paint" program on most Windows operating systems.
1.jpg

Next you will select your pic and add the file to the system
1. Click "Browse"
2. Choose your picture
3. Click "Add to File"
2.jpg

Put the cursor where you want the pic to appear in the post
4. Click "Place Inline"
3.jpg

Once you get the pic where you want it, it will look like this........ until you submit it.
5. Hit "Preview" before submiting so that you can see if it's actually the right pic you want added to the post.
