OK, I know you aren't serious......

Whats that supposed to mean???
The plan is already rolled, the engine was purchased 6 months ago, the mods are in progress, and currently in execution phase....
So, "LL8 Vega GT", you MUST be serious about it. :?:

Hmmmmm........OK, an electronic 'pat on the back' for the person who figures out what engine it is. There is already enough information given to figure it out, winner must provide what tipped you off ;)

It IS a 4.2l Vortec DOHC engine. SWEET!! 8) :th:
This engine is also known by another name or code: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Atlas_engine
And with a Powerglide transmission. So, it's new tech meets old school - literally.

Dang! you guys caught on quick! Yep, the atlas LL8. the more i look at it the more i realize GM secretly made this engine to be a performance engine. Those who have seen these engines in comp eliminator running in the 7 second range NA realize what they are capable of. I have an 07, GM made some major improvements in 06 to the head etc. and numbers improved to 291HP @ 6000 and 277 ft.lb of torque @4800. This series of engines were made in 4, 5 and 6 cylinder versions. I will be using a PG trans for this application because it will be drag race only. With the flat torque curve (thanks to the VVT) and the light weight of the car, i believe the PG will do just fine and are generally good for consistency. With the lexan windows, gutted doors, glass nose, all aluminum engine, no street legal lbs i am shooting for 2200-2300 #

I am now old and will be turning 30 this year, so this is part of my mid life crisis and is helping me through the depression of getting old, keeps my mind off things

I bet most who look at my user name think ' what an idiot, its an L88 vega, not an LL8'

Could we get you to post some dimensions? I would like to see the difference in height between the LL8 and the 2.3 (crank centre to very top). Perhaps while you're at it, maybe the total length of the LL8 and the distance between the spark plugs. That would give us (me) something to work with in figuring out the length of the 4 and 5 cylinder versions.

Well, I may just have done something like that in my preparation. Is this what you are looking for?

Like i said I have done the homework and have a pretty good start on the project. I made this really basic model this from the engine i have on my stand so i know it is pretty accurate. The bore spacing is 103mm on all these engines

I have also overlaid an SBC and as LL8 in SolidWorks along the crank center line and mated at the bell housing surface for a direct comparison of the physical size of the LL8 to the SBC.

Well, I must be over double old then. possibly why I think more old school than new. :bored:

Definately keep a project file on it, will be really interesting to see.

I still like the idea of the 250 Pontiac OHC 4Bbl engine.

I personally am wondering how long it will take direct port injection to trickle to the after market and then down to us still at "old school" it is how chevy got a 306 hp v6 that gets 25+mpg Timmy

You mean direct injected right? as in injected into the combustion chamer rather than the port? Thats where it is at, a pressure transducer in the chamber with real time feedback

EFI is one of my favorite things.............

LL8 Vega Gt,

Your drawing is too samll to read. I tried to enlarge it, but it just begins to pixel out when it gets to a readable size. Can you re-post in a large format?

Thanks,
