75 Pro Street vega Updates.

Postby ONEBADMK8 » Sat Feb 27, 2010 1:40 am

Started to dig into it tonight.

Got one seat cleaned with tanners and one side of the carpet shampooed and vacuumed.

Started on the rims too, man they came out like a mirror. The back drivers side shown isn't done yet. I went over them with Mothers soaked 1000 grit sandpaper then Mothers on the Powerball for HOURS!!!

I am beyond happy with this time capsule, it will be a ripper this Summer from the PAST! lol. What a GREAT find. Im stoked, lol.

I also will be covering the "Footloose" paint on the 1/4's with air release vinyl so it will remain perfect underneath so it will stay original. I cannot drive around with that on there, LOL. So heres a few ideas I came up with so far for a new name for the Vega. I wanted to keep that feel of the 70's and make it something that will work with the paint scheme too. Anyone else have any good name ideas? Check it out.

man id leave the footloose on it and call the mags that did the article on it back in the day and see if theyd be interested in doing a time capsule write up on the car! with a new motor and the detailing i think its still more than magazine worthy! :th: congrats on the awesome find!

Thanks a million man!! I called Car Craft already and they were no help as far as the archives go. Too many mags to physically go through they told me. They said if I had a Month they could look. I don't know the Month!! This car was on CC HR and SC from the year span of 76-82 thats what I was told. Anyone have any of these year mags? I need to see this car in it's heydey so I can make it look EXACT as possible.

i have those mags....I have both CC and HR going back to the mid 60's. I will start looking. It may take a while though.....I always end up getting distracted when I go through them!

Years ago I knew of a Super Stock / AA Amx that raced out of the Northest....it was called Wild Child. That would look pretty cool.

I like your idea of keeping the car original w/ Footloose on the rear quarter.

I will let you know if I turn anything up.

OMG Musicman & Greg thanks SOOOOOO much man!! I really mean it. Im in a time crunch I ready to start ordering up parts and getting this baby ready for the engine but I have to see how it looked before I can get anything. For one I have no radiator so I have to see how that was done plus the fuel system and fuel lines etc. Thanks a bunch Guys. My car won the best engine & paint at the CC Street Machine Nationals.

On a hunch I checked very quickly thru the year 1984 (the year the movie Footloose came out) but didn't see it, lots of other cool Vega's and Monza's though, lord I miss those years lol.
Anyway, just heading off to the car show but will check again tonight for you when I have more time. I actually have more CC's than I thought 79 - 86 conclusive with almost every issue from 86 thru to about 91 and more after that, lol.
Do you happen to know what year your car was at the CC' Nats in? Was it East coast or West?

Thats the wierd part, this car was painted like this in 1976. Everything you see in these pics down to the tires are from 1976, many years before the movie. Strange.

You've never heard the phrase " Footloose and fancy free "? It's been around a lot longer than the movie or me.

okay, gone thru my CC collection from '79 - 81 with no luck yet, I'll continue tomorrow. one thing puzzles me tho, you said it was painted like this in 76, but that paint job is more like 86, is that perhaps what you meant?

the script for footloose is identical to the movie title and the movie came out in 84 so start there.

Dude I love the car :th: Im a fan of pro street anyway :th: I agree that it has more of an 80's graphics look to it. and if your going with problem child lettering. IMO I like the first one you did in silver. very cool find!! Looks like the original front rubber dry cracked a bit. Mine had done that to and I found BFG radial Ta in the skinnys for a decent price.

Yeah everything pictured is dead on vintage 1976. Im getting the Coker repops of the front rubber. I also need back rubber too. After polishing the rims I bumped the valve stem with the drill and poooof flat tire, lol.

Im redoing the brake lines, wheel cylinders, brake fluid, rear rebuild, tires front & rear. Thanks for the kind words.

Doing a web search on the car I came up with: Car Craft - Nov. '85 and Popular Hot Rodding - July '86.
I don't have access to my magazines right now so someone else will have to confirm these issuses.
