Battery Tray question

Postby 77 Spyder » Sun Jul 16, 2006 12:13 pm

I need to locate my battery on the drivers side of the car. does anyone know if there is an availble replacement that fits in the factory location? Mine is currently on the passengers side, & will not fit the drivers side correctly.

any thoughts?

Thanks, Carl

I know it would be hard to find a decent used one and I'm not sure about a new replacement being out there. I think I still have mine I'll look. From 1 to 10 what are you looking for? Brian

It doesn't have to be perfect. I realize battery acid doesn't do much good for them. I guess as long as it looks ok once the battery is in place, that would be great.

77 Spyder, you could try Classic Industries or Original Parts Group. They have several different styles of replacement battery trays for many different GM models and years. Although I didnt find an exact replica of a Monza battery tray, a new one would look good. Reasonably priced around 20$ to 40$. If your not concerned about exact o.e.m. it might work.

H-Body Battery Tray Alternative

Try taking a look at a 69 F-Body(Firebird, Camaro) battery tray. It uses bolts instead of spot welds, but it is very similar in size and shape.

I just used one from an 81 Z I parted out. It works. It isn't correct, but I just welded it to cover the big gaping hole that was my original tray. That was the only rust in my entire car.

Mine was located on the drivers side but was beyond help.

I took a plastic one out ofan achieva ( I think ). It was not a perfect fit, it had to have some pieces cut and others added to the bottom so that it would sit okay.

Looks good and won't rust

I'm using a plastic one out of a 99 GMC Pickup. The size is about the same, maybe a little wider, but fits in great and its bolt in.

I was furtunate enough to torch one out of a 76 spyder in a boneyard, it was the best sheetmetal in that car :o My 79 Spyders pan was removed and glassed over by the preveouse owner, now I'm trying to restore it.
