For my mirage, I searched and searched for the stock 1980 AM/FM Cassette player with Digital Tuner.. Finally found one. Haven't installed it yet.

For the "Real" sound... I have devised a mounting system that hides a Modern CD Player (mine has XM capability that I will add soon) under the dash just to the right of the shift console... It slides down and out to use, and slides up into the dash when not being used.... I haven't built it yet, but it looks good on paper, and all the measurements fit...

For example, from the "use" position, the unit would slide straight down 1 inch, then pivot 20-30 degrees forward, and slide up under the dash...

I'll see if I can find my drawings somewhere, and maybe someone will actually make it and tell me how well it works :)

Search for the recent thread that showes Bryans (fyrfytr) install.

Modern stereo-nothing cut, with a 6 disc changer mounted in the back, out of sight.

it is outta sight.

you can get modern components in a retro fit package.

dosent look as hot or easy to steal as one where you have to cut the dash.

Just do a search for custom autosound and you'll find the thread that Marco is talking about. Or you can see my black Spyder in the 'garage' and chcek out the modification's section, I have all the info there as well as in the thread.
Bryan

That's one of the many reasons this forum ROCKS compared to Yahoo or EZ Board, the garage is the ultimate in showing off and sharing ideas that have worked for our individual cars so others can learn and use.

Get an FM modulator, an mp3 player, and an under-dash amp. Less money and a LOT less hassle.

I plan on the 80 digital tunned auto-reverse delco cassette deck for both cars, (one radio actually has an intergrated cb radio) and do the MP3 fm modulator like Brian just said. Paid $25 and $10 a peice at Jefferson swap meet.
