Help, no-start condition...

Postby marco_1978_spyder » Fri Jul 21, 2006 11:11 am

The next finnicky proplem with my 79 is a no-start condition.

If I jump the remote solenoid, the car starts fine, but if I use the key its acting like the clutch isnt pushed in...or some other saftey switch is open.

usual lights come on on the dash board in run, in start mode the oil light just comes on.

my clutch saftey has a bypass wire, thats still installed fine.

the oile pressure switch has been cut off and the wires connected together.

its been starting fine, untill yesterday.

any clues?

Thanks guys for the fast replies.

This happened late last night, so I didnt see what had happened.

went out there today...and viola, the problem was right before my eyes.

again, root cause, my shoddy assembly work.

Poorly spliced wire harnesses v6-v8 and no wire looms just spaghetti.

The purple wire that runs from a splice near the fues panel to the summit remote solenoid had pulled out....apparantly it had caught on the steering column. and wrapped itself around it....pulling away from each connection.

I should have put 2 and 2 together when I felt that the steering felt different on turns. duh!!

well thats that.....
new fuel pump is here and a another fuel filter....lets see if I can make this thing reliable today.

I checked new aveo's yesterday.

I can get a special value base model for 10k after taxes.

probably 175 a mo, for 6 years.
5/50 powertrain.

I went by suzuki, and they didnt have any aerio's to look at and no salesmen running out like at the chevy dealership.

there's also a Ford Aspire in the paper in great shape, with 120k miles but well maintained, for 1500.

i'll have to look at it.

Are there any other loose wires that wood cause your spark to be cut to your motor or fuel pump causing it to die (ie intermittent cut outs)? A roll of elctrical tape works great for temporary wire loom control.
