Locating a Windshield

Postby gregw98 » Tue May 17, 2011 10:02 am

Well I decided I needed to remove the front windshield to fix a small area of rust. After removing and destroying my perfectly good windshield (not on purpose), I am having a hard time locating another one. I need your advice and help locating one for a '78 Monza wagon. After a few calls, it didn't take me long to realize what a major F/U that I had just commited. Especially after finally getting all the shards and pieces of glass cleaned up, I could have easily fixed that small rust spot with the w/s still in the car. Need windshield = $350, engine short block = $1000, wheels-tires $600, Axles-spindles and brakes = $175, and I haven't even gotten to the interior and paint yet. I am about to be outpriced out of this project soon. Anyway, help me out in finding a windshield, if you can.

Call them back ask the same question, but use the words VEGA WAGON.
Monza wagons and Vega wagons are basically the same car with slight differences but carry the same windshield.

I bought 6 new wagon windshields years ago but since then the company has been sold off to Safe light or whatever it is.
Wagon windshields are still being made.
Good luck :th:

I find a local glass company (60 miles away) that said if I came in and paid cash for it, they could have it in 3 weeks at the tune of $650.00 and that is not installed. Now that truly is more than I paid for the car. I'll either sell my car or part it out before I pay $600+ for a windshield. I am still POed and feel like such a bonehead. Damn it!

$650 sounds crazy. Do some searching and see what you can find. Removing and installing a windshield is really best left to someone who does it for a living. They have the correct tools and knowledge to replace it quickly without damage. I saw them replace a windshield on my 84 Monte SS, from the time the guy pulled up to the time he drove off was 45 minutes.

$650 is the same first quote I got from my local store, when I went and stood in front of their desk they managed to find one in a couple hrs that would only cost $300 installed.

Yeah, Thats the other problem. SOOOOOO many people are so lazy that they will just look at the screen and say...Sorry, no windshields.
Many times you have to be standing infront of the person to make an impression
