jonnymonza wrote:Everybody out there who goes through the "I want a fiberglass hood" stage usually ends up buying one that looks like a good deal this and that- and then after 120 for shipping and 300+ from the body shop, they get an almost decent hood. Moral of the story folks- Get the best quality, and spend the money up front, or else join all of us who got SCREWED over. They dont fit right, they are made cheaply, and they will seriously piss you off if you dont know how to work fiberglass. I bought mine from up22.com (unlimited products) --- and well yeah mine looks like the nicest hood in town now that i got 800 bucks in it. But I reglassed the ENTIRE THING!!! I used their crummy shell to make a nice hood out of- I have SOOOO much time in that hood its not even funny, and i'm still not happy with it. GO HARWOOD or make your own. seriously.

Its really funny, cuz back in the day I asked the same question, and got the same answer---- AND DIDNT LISTEN! And so now, I'm preaching what i went against originally- cuz I couldnt afford a good hood. I would've been better off saving the money and buying a nice one PERIOD DOT

Yeah, I've got 2 hoods and a trunk deck that were made by unlimited and all are junk. I've had a few harwood and VFN fiberglass parts and would prefer one of those but they don't have the design I want. I almost positive I'm gonna just make a mold and make a whole hood because I don't like adding a scoop to a hood for a couple of reasons.

Maybe It's just me, but I recently had my hood off, and it didn't weigh much.

Just seems to me, it would be a lot of money for minimal weight savings, and a lot of effort to make it work.

Seems much easier to cut a hole and slap on a scoop

I'm not even running a "real" battery in this car because of weight concerns and I literally hate the design of the stock hood. I've shaved the drip rails, key holes, and marker lights just so this things looks good. I couldn't deal with a compromise on the focal point of the car.

Oh, and I've also stretched the wheel wells instead of using those fiberglass extensions. OCD......

Hey,

You might check out the one at US Body down in Fla. Not sure if it's exactly what you are looking for but maybe you would like it?

It's a 5" cowl hood, I have their 2" cowl hood. It was the only one I could find that was a bolt on using the stock hinges, not a pin on.

http://www.usbody.com/

Scroll over on the left side until you get to the Vega section.

Regards,

Joe

I have a 4" Glasstek bolt on that with a little tweaking fits pretty darn good for a fiberglass hood.

I would suggest calling Glasstek @ 630-978- 9881. Website:www.glasstek.com
Great products, great service.
I bought a 4in cowl glass hood for my 63 Impala and it fit beautifully. I plan to order my Vega hood from them as well, also with a 4" cowl. Hope this helps!

I don't really like the cowl design glasstek has. I have basically given up trying to find one.

Hi Darrin!!

Thanks for inquiring about our hoods, but unfortunately we do not have molds to make these hoods. Everything we make is listed on our website. If you have any interest in other hoods please let me know!

Thanks,
Erica

MY EMAIL TO THEM -

" If we could supply a stock H-body hood (they’re all the same for 5 different vehicles), would you consider making a mold? Theres a plethora of scoops we would want after the stock fibre hood was created .. "

Hey Todd, Not all H bodys take the same hood. The Monza Hood for the Quad light car is different from the hood for the dual headlight car and the Pontiacs hood is different again. Not 100% sure about the Oldsmobile Firenza (I think they are the same as the Monza quad light design as well) and Buick RoadHawks.

Ok, my bad .. approximately what percentage of H-bodies use the standard hood?
