targa band?

Postby Monza1979 » Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:32 am

ok on my CO6 i think the targa band looks kinda goofy. if i take it off what is under it? will water leak thru the astro roof? i want to replace it with the b pillar louvers the ones that came on other monza's.

Targa Band

I can't find my book that shows the exploded view of the roof assembly but I think that the band covers up the seam between the glass and sheetmetal of the roof. I doubt that it helps to seal the roof from leaking since you could get a Skyhawk with the Targa band but without the glass roof.

I think its more a cosmetic thing. If you decide to part with the strap let me know. I think the one on my 76 has a few deep scratches in it.

The Targa Band has two sided tape holding it to the roof and two screws behind the doors (also louver screws). You shouldn't have any problems removing it.

I took the Targa band off a SkyHawk at PAP a couple years ago and sold it to John and Richard (Eaglefish).
I took it off a regular Hawk, No astro roof.
It seemed to be just a cosmetic part. No real function.

It is just a cosmetic option. If you remove it, the paint will be unfaded and not match the rest of the car. Other than that - no problems.

Hey Kevin,
Have you given any thought to simply painting the strip, black?
It might go better with the grey body.
Take a few side shots of it and play around in your paint program and check out different colors.
Could end up with much less work painting than fabbing a new kind of strip......Plus you would have more storage space in the Ol' closet
Just a thought
