The tail panel is sanded and painted. What a gigantic pain in the butt.

Is there any interest in this attempt at a build thread being continued?

Okay, thanks. Didn't want to bog the system down for something not welcomed. I have appreciated the answers to all questions. The thread grew from the original question.

Not sure about the "different" approaches. Be happy to discuss the "why's" and "what's".

Different good, NOT different bad, I went back to make sure I was thinking about the right build thread and I was, first in my mind was your M/C mount offset and twisted(?) for clearance, that is different, but WAY effective and has some very pro looking work there! I recognize parts of your T/A mount but other aspects are quite unique, like your front slider, I think these are viable solutions for many on this forum, (and I may liberate a few ideas from them myself, Thanx in advance) your seat mount is again unique with pro looking touches! I meant only praise I hope you didn't take this as a negative. Which hood did you split for that cowl? It seems to match up well and it is long enough to reach up to the window. Harry

Thanks Harry. Different can be interpreted both ways. I was curious.

The MC mount is a product of the header design. I could not find any equal length one-piece, large tube, equal length, rotationally timed, spread port headers that fit he chassis. It was easier to build and go up, instead of trying to get them to go down because I wanted to be able to remove without pulling the engine, and to get to the plugs. The tubes are all within 3/8" on the right side and I forget what the difference is on the left, but 2 or 3 of the tubes are within the same 3/8" range of the right side. The other tube(s) are off by a small amount. Both the MC and the steering were offset to allow the headers to fit. Additionally, the oil pan is only 7" deep and I need the oil volume, so the location for the collector was restricted by the pan and the primary tube length of the header. Hence the modification of the crossmember.

The torque arm mount is a product of the challenges I had with my other H-body. It is a 75 Monza with a BBC car with a 7" engine set back, and an 1-1/2" offset. The car is a dedicated Land Speed car and the TA mount needed to be "salt resistant" and asphalt/runway LSR rigid due to harder acceleration. As I struggled to design something that will work with 1300 HP (for the Monza), many ideas were evaluated. The Sunbird won't see salt and we installed one of the designs evaluated during the Monza build. The Sunbird rear mount is set up to allow rear rotation in order to optimize in auto-x and road race, rigid for drag, and adjustable for pinion angle to raise/lower the car for east coast Land Speed. Both cars were required to have the factory frames retained for the class rules.

Good eye. 65 Mustang. Rusted and in a scrap pile with a deck lid and 4 fenders. Figured they'd make good project donor pieces.
