Interior door handle/arm rest interchange?

Postby dadhad1 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 4:45 pm

Anyone know if another vehicle application (ie camaro) that has the same part as a Vega for this? Mine's a 75. Not sure how much they changed through the years.

Thx

Mike

I believe 78-82 corvette is a direct fit.
They are reproduced for fairly cheap.

If you have the deluxe interior, the arm rests are the same as camaro. The actual inside door release handle, and the bezels around them are vega only. the monza/sunbird/skyhawk inside handles are the same as camero/firebird with the base interior package. I have thought about modifying the firebird handles to fit the vega/astre. they will mount on the vega door but the actuating rod that goes to the latch will not attach to the camero handle. There is also a depth issue and a small spacer would need to go under the handle to the door for correct alignment. Vega uses a loop and tang on the handle end., not the rod and clip style of the camero/monza. A new rod would also have to be fabricated.

Mike does your lock button come through the arm rest like the Monza? If it does try Tracey Performance in Roseville MI for the Vette arm rests '78>'82 ? and if the answer is no then the Camaro arm rests if they resemble the "Monza" arm rests at all. Sorry I don't remember all the different types through the years of all the "cousin cars" :( There goes that "CRS" again! Harry http://store.tracyvette.com/item/460/ or does your take this style? http://www.classicindustries.com/1976/f ... 00968.html Harry

Thanks guys for the input.
Lock on top of the door Harry.

Had a hunch the Camaro would be the same or really close.

I just ordered a set from Rick's Camaros. I'll follow up on the post with their quality/fit/finish once I get them installed.
http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-armr ... 74-81.html

I spotted quite a few other items that looked the same or very close to Vega parts (especially interior), so if interested in some new repro stuff, you may want to take a gander...

I am so glad we have this site to ask question like this about interior parts, I was thinking about ordering the interior door handle and bazel from Yearone. Now I am not sure what to order anymore....

I had bought a set from NPD for my 75 Cosworth that were for Camaro and were the same. I just bought a set from Eckler's for my 77 Monza that were listed for a Corvette, lock knob located in arm rest, again the fit was perfect. I was at Ecklers for a VCCA show so I brought the piece with me to match it up, the girl at the counter had that typical Corvette mentality. When I told her the application I needed it for she refused to admit it could be the same, she responded "someone must have installed the Corvette ones on there"

Hey John, what year did you use for the Camaro for NPD?

John,

Did you respond that someone must've put Monza armrests in her Corvette (along with the steering wheel)? They were in the Monza first!

Byron,
I have the paperwork at home in NY. I am in Florida now about 3 miles from NPD. I will go over there tomorrow (I have to take wife to airport today) and see if they have a history of my order. I looked on line and there seems to be a few different ones for different years but they all look the same. Do you need both side? I only needed the driver side and still have the unused passenger side NY

John
I need both sides. I have list of parts that keep adding to my wish list at Yearone. That is pretty good that you are close to NPD,
. Thank you for time in doing that. I have a tendency to buy parts and not use them.

Most of the time, the only thing wrong with the armrest is that the forward screw pulls out of the glued mount when someone pulls on it too hard. The easy fix is just to buy an armrest repair kit. Help parts used to make them and I have used several over the years with no problems and I have never seen one fail. It makes it better than stock. Classic Industries also sells them for about $7 and here is the link. http://www.classicindustries.com/1976/f ... y4203.html

Just went to NPD and these screwed right in place for my 75 Cowsorth, they checked my order and it was part number C-14686-13B they were $100 for the pair. These replacements were reinforced so they will not have the same problems as the originals. I saw the repair kits at Ecklers a few weeks ago, seemed like they could work as long as somebody did not hack the handles up trying to repair them prior, or of they were broken a long time and were bent from everyone trying to pull the door closed with a broken handle
