Getting close !

Postby doughnut » Fri Aug 01, 2014 7:56 pm

I'm getting close to having all I need to get my 3.8 v6 auto to v8 4 speed conversion started. I have....350 4 bolt main,motor mounts and plates,manual tranny crossmember,v8 oil pan,Muncie m22 4 speed, bell housing,fork,new clutch cable,clutch,headers,v8 rad,clutch pedal,car already has 10 bolt posi with 373's and traction bars.Things I don't have....v8 pulleys,brackets,starter,alternator,fan shroud,dipstick...I'm guessing I'll need to shorten the driveshaft. WHAT HAVE I FORGOTTEN ???? Thanks

How are you going to attach the torque arm to the Muncie trans? Muncies never came in cars with a torque arm so there is no provision to attach it to the trans.

I wonder if he has a torque arm, they don't work very well with traction bars.

I think there is a torque arm on the current set up.

The second photo is the panhard rod which holds the axle for side to side motion. It is standard with the torque arm.

Thanks guys. Does that mean using the Muncie is impossible ? Or can I delete the torque arm and use it ?

Check out my journal here to see what it takes to stick a muncie in these cars. viewtopic.php?f=20&t=20344&start=195

Here's another thread that shows a Muncie. There's one shot of the chassis showing the torque arm mounted to the trans cross member. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41858

I put a BW T-10 transmission in my monza. I made a custom bracket that held the shifter & the torque arm bracket together. tuned out very nice. I had to shorten the torque arm about an inch If i remember correctly. I think I made post about that here on the forum, but it was about 6 years ago. Not sure if it is still searchable
