H-body music video? What song would you choose?

Postby mahoy78spyder » Mon Aug 25, 2014 9:18 am

Hey all you H-body fans out there... if you were assigned with making a cool, kick ass H-body music video, what song (or songs) would you choose? :burn:

Hi Ken,
Back when i had my red 72 Vega , my favorite cruising song was Red Barchetta. Loved touring in that car.

I did one for my car using an old song by Paperlace called "So What If I Am"

"Ok, I'm a Judas on the family name
Alright, pretty mama's gonna die of the shame
Ok, I'm a tall black sheep of the clan
So what if I am"

Kind'a defines the cars we love so much.
Reality is like a bar of soap. Sometimes it's hard to get a grip on it.

Interesting topic... and cool suggestion's so far....

There's a few different ways I'm thinking of this... if it's a music video were making, ie; a musical backing track to shot's of an H body whipping around... then I'd search out or just create a 70's style psychadelic funk sounding piece. Just like GM used in the promotional video's.

I could also make a great 'Red Barchetta' video.

If were talking music for a car-show type display setting, then I'd want Rock and Disco hit's of the late 70's early 80's ...when most people would remember driving one new. Bee Gee's, Abba,

If it comes to music while driving my monza...it get's kind of complex. I remember driving through the big hill's/mountains of PA and only wanting to hear some YES. And feeling like the music was made just for those vista's.

Now I like as evening falls and your in some distant far-off town still on your way home. I like some guitar heavy stuff, so I'll really want to hear some Allan Holdsworth..

And there's this great unknown guitarist that put out 3 albums in the mid 70's.. played with Chick Corea in Weather Report..

"Bill Connor's".. I urge anyone to check his albums.. "Step-it" "Double-up" and "Assembler" . (there on the tube)

For a more modern music video sound I would use a selection from .."Ozric Tentacles"

The flip side of the 45 to Bohemian Rhapsody was "I'm in Love with My Car". Wasn't bad but I'm more of a RUSH fan. I just remember flipping it to hear this song and for whatever reason remember it. That was 1976.............

"I'm In Love With My Car"

The machine of a dream, such a clean machine,
With the pistons a pumpin', and the hubcaps all gleam.
When I'm holding your wheel,
All I hear is your gear,
When my hand's on your grease gun,
Oh it's like a disease son,
I'm in love with my car, gotta feel for my automobile,
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar,
Such a thrill when your radials squeal.

Told my girl I just had to forget her,
Rather buy me a new cartburettor,
So she made tracks sayin' ths is the end now,
Cars don't talk back they're just four wheeled friends now,

When I'm holding your wheel,
All I hear is your gear,
When I'm cruisin' in overdrive,
Don't have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive,

I'm in love with my car, gotta feel for my automobile,
I'm in love with my car, string back gloves in my automolove!

I tend to agree it would have to be 70's-early 80's pop rock and Disco for the H-body.
Just for a tongue-in-cheek stab..... I like Joan Jett's, Bad Reputation.
Gotta watch it here: http://youtu.be/5RAQXg0IdfI

......" I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation
I've never been afraid of any deviation
An' I don't really care if you think I'm strange
I ain't gonna change

An' I'm never gonna care 'bout my bad reputation
Oh no, not me, oh no, not me
Pedal, boys!....... "

With it's stab at the music "establishment" and the 20 some odd refusals by major record execs befpre she went to #1 with "I Love Rock and Roll", it sort of emulates the H-body reputation.... and our "attitude" as H-body owners.
With it's fast guitar/drum tempo, I can see an early Vega with rusty quarters and some smoke puffing out the dual exhausts(v8 conversion), just as it slides sideways around a gravel/dirt road with a black leather biker jacket clad arm flipping a "California Howdy" out the window.
Maybe, I'm just strange.......

Not H-body.... but just had to add this one. It actually uses the car (Chevy Sonic) as a percussion instrument.

Ok... wow! LOTS of good suggestions here... and I'm right on board with many of them. I grew up a HUGE Rush fan, so anything from them is a no-brainer... in fact, after reading these suggestions, I've been watching/listening to YouTube for the last hour or so.... reminiscing about the days when I'd listen to Red Barchetta in my Red Spyder, or anything by AD/DC. That led to the inevitable Tom Sawyer, YYZ, 2112, and then the best drum solo EVER recorded live by Neil Peart on the 'A Show of Hands' album. It almost got emotional for me!

Anyway, the reason I asked was that I was perusing through my phone and found the videos I took of Marco's Spyder as he and I were racing down the 401 on the way back from the recent Monzaqueue, and as I was recording him, I was tuned to a local 80's station. The two songs that were playing were "Bad To The Bone" by George Thorogood, and "White Wedding" by Billy Idol. (as if I had to mention who sang them) Watching those videos was almost like watching a music video and then I thought to myself, what if I dubbed a killer song over the videos and slipped in some still shots of the Monzaqueue itself into a nice little music video in tribute to the 9th annual Monzaqueue? I'm no video director, nor wiz when it comes to this kinda stuff... it's all done on a Windows laptop... no fancy Apple/MAC using high-dollar software... but it would be fun to say the least.

In the meantime, keep those suggestions coming. :th:

Two faves while cruising my buddies red 79 spyder, just like marcos, we wore out several highway to hell cassettes. Personal fave was beatin around the bush. Also wore out some cars cassettes. CandyO personal fave on that one.
We also wore out some 8 tracks of the same in his 62 nova before the spyder. Some really fast fun times and cars.
Not sure the year of your spyder Marco but that's my all time favorite hbody. 78 and 79 spyders.
