Hurst shifter fit??

Postby dindin » Wed Aug 27, 2014 5:07 pm

Hi,
I just bought a Hurst Comp Plus 4 Speed shifter Kit,
The part numbers are..3917875 3738619

The ad said it fit 76 and up 4 speed cosworth Monza starfire ect, but I have a 75 will it still fit ?? Does anyone know, I can't find much info, but I though they all shared the same transmission on the 4 speed.

I know owners of '75's that use that shifter without problems.

Al, where did you find the installation kit? Was it new or used? I've been looking all over the place for that kit. You can still buy the shifter new from Hurst but not the kit.

Ken, Funny story, I was googleing around looking for some engine parts when an ad popped up show the shifter package, shifter and linkage brand new, I had allways wanted one but gave up a long time ago, according to ups I will be getting it today, I got it from hurstshiftersonline.com, but like I said it was a complete fluke that I happened upon it, and I did not want to spend the money, but I had to do it..

Well, I found the link and when the Hurst site comes up it says this item is no longer active. You might have got the last one, lucky dog.

I believe I had this shifter in a 77 spyder. I had to cut about 1/4 off the tunnel toward the drivers side. Even though the base was offset where the handle bolted on I couldn't get in reverse without cutting. Other than that it was a good shifter. Just wondering if your attempting to put the shifter on with the trans in the car?

You don't have to pull the trans to install the shifter, I did not have to cut anything on the car. However the floorpans a re a little different between 75's and later cars.

I will be pulling the transmission on the car because im in the process of fixin mechanicals, the transmission is soaked in oil and gunk and I might have it serviced.

I wonder if the boot will still work though, and hopefulyy no snipping of the tunnel.

The Competition Plus is designed to work with the stock console, I think I may have used my original boot at first but changed it to a smaller one years later.

The installation ONLY kit was listed by Hurst as discontinued , but now it looks like they have made it available again (???) - it would make sense for them to offer it , there can only be a few pieces that are specific to this kit vs the other Saginaw 4 spd kits.

https://hurstshiftersonline.com/product ... =5#details

That is the complete shifter and install kit - I cannot find the install kit listed as being available separately - frustrating as I have a bunch of shifters pretty sure I have the one that is included in this complete kit.

Thanks Al for the heads up. The shifter and especially the installation kit I have filed in the Monza parts Holy Grail category along with the Monza rear spoiler. Finding a new one in the box is great. I actually have a new A&A fiberglass spoiler that I got when I bought one of my 3 75 Monza's. Not got around to installing on my good 75 but soon maybe. Again, thanks for the info.

Ken, hope that A and A spoiler fits better than the one I have. I have been working on mine and have over 50 hours of time invested into it already. I had to fill and contour all 3 parts to fit the body without any gaps. I actually have it painted now and am in the process of wet sanding and buffing the clear. I think it is going to look very nice once it is finally finished but man was it a lot of work. I will post a pic of the finished product after I get it installed at some point.

Clyde, I read about that in a previous thread and was hoping that you weren't talking about an A&A one. I have held the one I have up to the body and it doesn't look like it fits in some places so I'm sure a lot of work will have to be done on mine too. I'm really thinking about farming that job out to a local custom body shop.
