Postby 79440bird » Tue Sep 23, 2014 5:49 am

Has anyone seen these control arms before? U weld them to the axle an they replace the original lower control arms. I tried to upload a picture but it says the file is to big.

actually, you dont weld them to the rearend, they fit up in between the stock lower brackets, theres a extra hole you drill and it uses 2 bolts to attach to the bracket. They fit in the front stock mount. They are adjustable for the amount of preload applied to the rear axle housing.

If I can ever get time to get my car done first..lol

Here is a picture of them after I machined for axle tube clearance for the 12 bolt. They have been stripped and repainted.

Basically, the two empty bolt holes above the Ansen control arm bolt attach to the factory housing bracket. The middle bolt hole is used in the original control arm hole. The top hole has to be drilled through the housing bracket and a second bolt installed. At that point anytime the pinion/housing rotates up or down, (wheel hop), the main bracket moves with the housing, while the control arm moves inside the bracket. The control arm has an upper and lower, rubber bump stop mounted into it. There are two flat pivot plates that are attached to the main bracket. When the upper and lower bolts are adjusted in or out, they will engauge the flat plates and set the "gap" between the plates and the rubber bump stops. The instructions tell the installer to back off the bolts for street driving and also to tighten the bolts to set a 1/4" gap for racing. So that being said, the actual control arm moves inside the main bracket and the main bracket plates stop an amount of pinion rotation depending on the gap set.

Thanks guys. I used a grinder an cut these off a rear end like 20 years ago. Never new they bolted on otherwise they probably would be bolted on my car. But I think there only made for a early h body cars with upper control arms. Not a torque bar car. Or can you use them on a torque bar car ??
