Anybody Know What These Are Called?

Postby starfire » Wed Sep 24, 2014 9:04 pm

and where to find them? A funky type of christmas tree fastener that was in my rear bumper cover. A search of ebay for "christmas tree fastener" and "christmas tree fastener rectangle head" brought no results.

They were in the area in the center of the white circles. You can see the right hand one fairly well as it was either a grey color or black that had faded badly. It fell apart when I removed it.

This looks close. Not sure the size is right though. http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/GM_Rea ... a19449.htm
Most auto body supply stores can order these body panel retainers.

You were both helpful. looks like product number 19418 is as close as I'm going to get. It has the correct size head and diameter, but the length is 3/8" shorter. It should still work though as the ones I took out seemed excessively long. Thanks for the help!

Hey Alan did you try R&R he's from MI and has a pile of clips in his catalogue along with some neat wiring stuff. He's usually at all the local swap meets and many shows. Harry Here's his site http://www.wirelm.com/index.html and clip page http://www.wirelm.com/30-37_55.html

Wow, he's got lot's of stuff Harry. He has one that looks like it, but it's "natural" in color, not black, and it carries a different part number than what I found at Au-Ve-Co, so I don't think it's the correct one. I'm going to be at a Chevy dealer today so I'm going to see if they have anything with that part number. If they have it, it will be more expensive, but sometimes convenience is worth the cost. Thanks for the link though, that will be a very handy website. Do we have a listing of websites like these on the site?

I can't tell the size of that fastener, but it's identical in shape to the one that secures the cowl seal on my Vega.

The head is 13/32" x 1", stem length is 7/8", stem diameter is 9/32". The one from here http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Search ... Search.y=4
is the same, but the stem length is only 9/16", but that should be sufficient length. I have to buy 25 of them so if anyone needs a couple let me know and I can send some to you.

Alan, he sure does, and neat mix, and like I said I have seen him at a few MI shows. Au-Ve-Co Is Huge too, their old paper catalogue had reading (or drooling) for days! They have been around for a long time, Harry

OK I ordered 25 of them from Clips And Fasteners (they are an Au-Ve-Co distributor), so we shall see how close to the original they are.

Yup, 25 of them just showed up in the mail yesterday. Exactly like that. About a 1/4" shorter than the original, but they seemed a little long anyway so the new ones should work just fine. If anyone finds they need a couple of these, give me a shout and I'll throw a couple in the mail to you.

I think the technical term for these is 'GoesInta-No-GoesOutta'.
