1980 or so 5.0 monza for 1976 vega v-8 swap

Postby Vega Joe » Sun Sep 28, 2014 7:12 am

what parts will interchange between this car andmy 1976 vega hatchback ?

I'm aware I need the oil pan and pick up
motor mounts and frame plates
center link
rotors and calipers
coil springs ? its a non a/c car
steering box ? both cars are manual steer
both cars are manual trans any diff in clutch pedal linkage ?
the trans is missing in the monza not sure if the trans mount is in it yet
the rear axel is a 7.5 with torque arm

I'm sure I'm missing some parts I bcan use off it , but what about like body parts ? or dash board,
my boss is gonna give me a narrow time frame to strip the car and get it out of the yard so please any info would be greatly appreciated

zero body parts interchange with the vega, only interior that will fit is the seats, rest is all monza only. The entire drivetrain, engine, trans, mounts, radiator, rear end as long as you use the whole monza set up with torq.arm, etc, clutch pedal assembly, steering column, will all interchange

I'd pull the door handles and hardware, the outside mirrors, those should be vega compatible

Rear seat is different. Coil springs will fit, but the ride height might be a little high; the Monza is heavier. You will also need the outer heater box and core(as long an both cars are non A/C), and the radiator. If the trans crossmember is missing, you might still be ok, depending upon what trans is in the Vega. I would also grab the sway bars; if the Vega has no front bar, you will also want the lower control arms.

Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

Ok great the monza was a 4 speed I think , and my vega is a 3 speed both cars are non a/c . Is the fuel tank the same ? Should I take the master cylinder also ? Both cars are manual brakes . Thanks again

Gas tank is different. Master cylinder and proportioning valve probably a good idea; I think they might be slightly different because the Monza has vented front rotors and larger calipers.
