Overkill engine X-member

Postby monzajer » Mon Nov 10, 2014 1:05 am

Hey guys, how is everyone?

I see Justin is doing some catch up work. Good for him. Always good to be busy.

Well, as the subject reads, I am in the hunt for an Overkill engine X-member!!! I am in a pinch and need the X-member to get my project going. I have a guy that wants to get started on it, but has only a small window. Hoping I can entice someone to sell his/hers. Maybe you have one and the project is "On hold" or you changed your mind or need some money, please, let me help you with that. I will be very happy to take these parts off your hands. :D If you have a set of A-arms, chromoly type, I will take those, too. :D

If you have any buddies or know anyone that has any of these parts, please, let them know.

I know I may be reaching a bit, but still hoping. 8)

Hope everyone is well. :th: :th:

Thanks to all

cheers

O ok so that's a X - member. What rack an pinion do you use with that?? Looks like a Mustang rack an pinion mounts but I have tried that rack an pinion an could not get rid of the bump steer no matter what position it was in. Custom rack an pinion are not cheap an all put together. X - member $450.00 custom rack an pinion $500.00 steering shaft a u-joints $300.00. That's sum big cash for little difference in steering. Anybody come up with a budget build steering over stock??

I think he's really busy with his full on chassis shop, maybe he'll chime in.

I believe Justin's is set up for mustang 2. Im using a chevette on my car, the manual rack from o'riellys was 135 bucks when I bought it. I'm in the process of getting materials quoted to make some k-members, control arms, sub-frame connectors, 1/4" stock type 4 link brackets with adjustable holes and whatever else anyone would like made for these cars. I'm making everything out of chromoly, if guys would like things made out of DOM or mild steel, prices would be cheaper. Anyone interested just chime in.

I'm not understanding how people can buy a X - member for a rack an pinion that won't work for this narrow wheel base car. I just don't feel like buying one thing here an then buying a different thing here to find out later after all this money spent that I have bump steer. If someone put together a true package deal K-MEMBER, RACK AN PINION, STEERING SHAFT AN JOINTS, AND OUT TIE - RODS. UNDER 700 buck I would be interested plus no heim joints for tie rods plus no bump steer adjustable outer tie rod connections. I'm talking real true tie - rods. All that other stuff can stay at the straight an narrow race track. If you use the 68 camaro spindles the steering arms bolt on so that leave the Door open for options on new arms to be made up for a monza vega application. If I was to start making control arms I would make them for 69 camaro ball - joints an the urethane bushings. I wish someone made urethane chevette rack an pinion mounts. So far using the chevette rack an pinion the steering shaft an u joints cost me 300bucks the stock rubber mounts hold the rack ok but there is some flexibility with it. The Mustang rack an pinion steering post also is in a better spot. (For my application) but it's to long an there goes more dollars into this car for a custom rack an pinion. All in all. Just trying to say. Someone put together a complete bolt in kit for a good price and I would buy it. Boy wouldn't that save some time. Lol or just make some steering arms for the 69 camaro spindles to except the stock monza vega outer tie - rods. (Correct tapper hole and correct length) or go just a tad bit shorter for a even better steering feel. Doug

Your not going to get a package deal under 700 bucks.....I can assure you of that. I haven't checked the price, but im sure first gen Camaro spindles aren't cheap. S10 spindles are abundant in every junkyard in the U.S very cheap. I haven't started on the rack setup/ k-member jig yet but it will be set up correctly when done. I'll be making my chevette mounts out of aluminum. Most wont like that, but I prefer a firm responsive steering wheel. I wish energy suspension made poly bushings for the chevette, but I doubt theres enough demand.

The rack n pinion Justin sells is shortened to correct the bump steer!! He is supposed to start building again after the first of the year,I'm looking to buy k member and control arms myself.
