Is this a real Spyder?

Postby pobrien327 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 11:41 am

A few things seem fake about this sale:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Chevrolet- ... 7675.l2557

1. I don't think I have ever seen a single headlight Spyder. Did they make them?
2. No other markers that indicate Spyder
3. This guys first sale
4.The buyer has 27 on his sale/purchase # but 100% are his bids are with this person :?

There's a mongrel. Considering the ease of swapping parts, you'd think it was a sport model 2+2 with the wrong front clip bolted on.. Seems possible since the side 2+2 emblems are there. But by the VIN it suggests it was an M07 (Round Headlight) That's gone through the trouble of converting the rear.
But here's more odd...The dashboard (gauges and woodgrain) are 1977, the door skins seats and the rest are 78. Also the car was a V6 originally. or at least The Vin Suggests it was.

My take is it's a 1977 Monza, with 1978 Parts used where needed. Including the VIN from the 78.

This point has no bearing. That just means that this is the only item he has bid on in the past 30 days.

Guy I know, his dad bought an 83 Firebird from a sleazy used car lot. It didn't seem to handle right and eventually he had it put on a rack. The guy showed him where the entire back half of another car had been welded to the front half right at the rear of the door. Welded line ran across the entire car bottom and rockers.
Anything is possible out there.

Dead give way is the rear side marker lights if it has wrap around tail lights it wont have rear side marker lights. I did the conversion to my drag car and only found out that from someone at am hbody meet i dont remember who told me sorry but my yellow spyder does not have rear side marker lights there also is a chance that the quarter panels were replaced sometime in its life . But i mostly agree with Marco on this 1 its a mutt . But a very nice Mutt.

It has a spyder rear trunk lock cover, but not a maching steeringwheel badge.

Yes I have never seen a spyder with round headlight

And the rear is not wright

And yes in this world somebody will put together anything, just to make a hole car, for somebody, but then again - if you like it - then it is for you to enjoy.

If you have the skills, can get the parts and have the money you can bring it back to the original looks

there is not many H body left out there, so I ges we have to safe what is left.

After this discussion, I have, what I think is a 1976 Monza 2+2, sold as a 1975, from new in Sweden, with an export sticker under the hood and 1976-80 gauges

The vin no is 1R07G621084XX, this part I have seen, so I think this is right, but now I do no know if it is a 1976 ??

Thanks from Erik

Erik If the car was built between say Sept. and the new year in '75 many believe it would be a '75, but remember the model year has started as early as July (Citation '80 model July '79 the first Chevy of the Eighties) but usually September for the upcoming model year. So Sept '75 through end of August of '76 for the '76 model year so check the Mfg. date and go from there I am not well versed in the "Sequence Codes" but that looks like an early build to me by that partial number there. (Marco Giglio, Bryan McCready or Brian Jackson are way better at that part of this by a couple of hundred miles for sure) Harry
