I think the place where the "888" is the trim code, although I don't know what code an "888" represents.
The 52 is the 52nd day of production I believe.

See this link, if you haven't already been here:

Hope that helps a little...

Been there but thanks for the reply. I've searched everywhere that I can think of.

The GM Heritage Center download for my Vega wont open either, but I can open most other info packs from them.

The info that I know is: ST(style) 73=1973 1hv77 is Vega hatchback u is Lordstown plant 533261 is sequence number

TR(trim) 888=??? A51 is bucket seats 11 11 is antique white upper and lower

08A is 1st week of 8th month 1972 52-8679 is unknown

ZJ1 is also unknown C60 is 4 seasons A/C

The 888 is an interior/seat code, just cant find what it means.

Here is some info - There were 14 different 800 interior codes for 73. The closest to your 888 is 818. RPO ZJ1 is for a custom interior.

I really don't have a clue after that :D just wondering what color and material are your seats? Brian

I bet its a type set error when the tag was stamped. Easy mistake to make I suppose.

Interesting mystery either way.

I think this might solve it.

Look at the Custom Interior pic (73 Vega Interior4.jpg) and you will see this description at the end.
Custom Interior: Choices, depending upon model and exterior color, are: Cloth/vinyl-Black. Blue. All-vinyl - Black. Green. Neutral. Red. Chamois. Saddle.

Here is a parts sheet showing the 73 - 74 (at the bottom) code of 888 being the Neutral color.

That's perfect. :th:

Actually at the top of that page it shows 888 as being lt. sandlewood which is what I have. I think as I'm not sure that "neutral" is even a color.

Why any of this even matters I don't know because of what this little car is getting turned into.

At least now I know what color the seats are for new covers so I can sell them.

I don't know what "neutral" is either, but the top is for 71. Heck the color could of been the same but the name changed?

Lots of combinations, this page just makes it extra busy. Blue and Black carpet? PN 9561343 :th:
