Restoration details - Sway bar tag

Postby OldsStarfire » Fri Jan 23, 2015 4:42 pm

Does anybody know what the tag on the front sway bar says or have a picture of it? I'm recreating all the tags for the springs, sway bars, wire harness, etc for a really detailed restoration and I don't have one for the front sway bar.

The cool thing about finding this info, is these tags are what line workers used to identify the parts against what was listed in the buildsheet.

The buildsheet code for the basic front swaybar was .... "FT" used with V6 without F41 suspension. "FA" is for the big bar used with the V8 and with F41.

Thanks Marco. This car has the large dia sway bar so I guess would be FA. Do you happen to know the part number for this bar?

For the rear sway bar I have the part number and the tag was black, but I don't have the code. Do you know what the code was?

I have 2 codes in memory...'FT' and '78' I'll take a closer look at the buildsheets to make a determination.

Clyde might have the part number handy..

The 1.125 front bar is 371786. That is the largest factory bar on a H body.

Thanks guys. The build sheet calls out FT for the front, and based on Clyde's info the part number would be 371786. Now if I only knew what color the sticker should be.

Here is what I have so far:

Hi Jeff I had some replacement parts (V8 springs) from the GM dealer from back in the days when they had them to sell, and I recall the front spring tags being a light blue colour (almost a robin egg blue) when I seen it last. I will check and see if it is still attached, and add an update/edit to this. If you think that would help you in your quest, I expect it to be faded though it is now at least 30 years old. Harry

Thanks Harry - I have the originals for both front & rear V6 springs. I don't have the front sway bar though.
