1977 Astre "Duke" Graphic's

Postby cammerjeff » Fri Feb 13, 2015 9:34 pm

A member of the Big Pontiac Site PY just bought a 77 Astre HB with some unique graphic's on it. He boought it in OK from the Original Owner who told him "it is as he bought it from the Dealer" I have never seen anything like it before, Probably Dealer added, the car does have the Formula 3-piece rear spoiler, but is not a Formula. I know about 500 Non Formula Astre HB's did have the spoiler factory installed, as it was a late year option.
I suspect this will be like the "Monza Scorpion" that appeared a few years ago. Just a dealer decal package to help move some cars. But I have learned to never. So I am thinking the "Duke" may be referancing the newly released Iron Duke Engine? So who knows.

Reminds me of a sighting a friend of mine had. He said he saw what the thought was a white sunbird with a gold eagle on the hood like a trans-am. I never located the car, but when I saw this car, I instantly thought this is what my buddy had probably seen. Perhaps one of those ' one per dealership' type of option's?

This looks a lot more probable than the scorpion, I'd say this ones up there with the Sunbird blackbird edition. This seems more likely though, since it's just decals. Uses a factory spoiler and coincides with the introduction of the iron duke engine.

That Formula Coupe sure looks like what Marco's Friend saw! Hate the hood bird by the way.

If it does have the buildsheet, aside from RPO codes box 55 labled "hydro peirce" will list a color for the decals or 3 stars " *** " if it got nothing.

Buildsheets could be anywhere under the carpet, usually where feet go. If there's plastic behind the seats, maybe there as well.

Welcome Aboard Poncho' ... guy [Don]! Unusual graphics on that little car. We would all like to something nice done to the car, and hope you do and enjoy/keep it, at least for awhile. Especially since it is at least a little rare, probably really rare, as few of us have even heard of this version. Jeff has been on here and the other H-Body sites forever and knows his stuff is a great guy and will help you wherever/however he can as will most of this board. Thanx for sharing and keep us posted PLEASE. Harry

Hey Jeff...would you happen to have some extra emblems? I need both Astre's for the fender and the "Pontiac" for the Header panel? Do you have any Interior pieces mainly rear plastic sides?

Don, I definatly have any interior Plastic you may need, the rear C piller molding I have both styles, thestyle for the rear pop out windows and the style for the fixed windows Either will work as the only diferance is the pop out windows require a small cut out to clear the latch. I should have decent used Astre emblems for the Fenders, I am not sure about the Pontiac header Panel emblem. The only issue is I am leaving the country for a couple of weeks but I will be back the 2nd week of March.

Jeff that sounds good man that will give me time to get "the list" together lol. I do know I don't have the pop-out windows. But I'll get a list of what I need and see what you have. Thanks!
