is there a trick for bending 1/" fuel line

Postby chevyart » Tue Feb 17, 2015 12:09 pm

. im using Moroso aluminum fuel line, 1/2" OD. it bends by hand, but i want to get nice , clean short right angle bends. i only have access to a line bender that takes up to 3/8" in OD line. any good tricks to get these bends. does anyone make a bender(hand held) that will bend the 1/2" line. im trying to duplicate the shape of the stock vega fuel line and run it in the same place. thanks art

I would bend that fuel line over a 3 inch steel pipe or something that has the radious you are looking for, practice with some scrap pieces first as to learn when to start the bend.

Go to your local hardware store and usually in the screen door section. You can find 1/2 I'd springs
Slip it over your line and bend away. Nice tight bends with no kinks.

If you plan to more of this sort of work in the future, you might want to buy one. If not, the spring idea works without kinking the tubing. Bending it around the pipe will work but you may want to fill the tubing with something so it won't collapse. If you have any buddies doing HVAC, pipe, or plumbing work, they'll have one.

Hey Art here is the beast you need There is an older style that looks similar but you will want the newer style or go Imperial Eastman. The style with the hook along the straight handle is quite limiting when back to back 90* bends are needed. That is the style I own (if only I knew when I bought these a few decades ago) the style in this link and pic is much better for auto use (lots of back to back 90's).

i will try and borrow a tool just like the one harry showed us. if i cant get one i will use the spring trick, and can i go one step further and put the spring on the tube and bend it over a round pipe that has the right radius. i think this would give me a really nice bend. best of both tube bending worlds. thanks guys art

Forget springs and cheap benders.

Get a decent bender, you won't regret it.
