new to the site

Postby 1972vegaz28 » Thu Feb 19, 2015 11:40 am

Hello, I have just joined the site after finding it awhile back. I am fairly new to h-bodies and wanted to join because this seems to be the site I'll be on a lot now. I am 18, and my car is a 1972 Vega hatchback. The car interested me because I am into the 70s stuff, like air shocks , cragers, etc. This car was done up around 76-78, metal flake paint, four lug cragers, spoilers, and the original engine has been supposedly hopped up using IECO parts. Thanks for reading

Welcome. Good to have another 4 cylinder fan. BTW, the GT "Regular Production Option" number was Z-29.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have been really getting into these cars, and I have gotten a lot of compliments when driving it to work and school. Lol, some people ask if its for sale, but the answer is always no. Its my first car. And I plan on keeping it for a long time.

There was a guy on long island that rebuilt vega engines (racer jack) in the 70's / 80's that always painted his engines baby blue - wonder if it is one of his. My brother bought a few of his engines. I remember he included a matching color t shirt.

Welcome to the site. The car looks like it hasn't seen much daylight or miles, like it has been stored inside for some time, great find! That Weber intake manifold is pretty rare. IECO sold a metal fabricated one that used two carbs, your's is cast aluminum. Where did you find the car?

Monzaaddict, really? That's very interesting. I live not to far from there. Do you have any more info on the engines or if he had a business? Thanks , I was wondering why the engine was painted blue.

Hammerdown7, yes the car hasn't been driven much over the Years, it has 73 thousand miles on it. Apperantly in the mid to late 70s , a man that owned a used car dealer had a son who wanted a z28 camaro, but his dad didn't want him to have a v8 , so instead gave him this car off his lot. The kid turned it into a mini-z28 and drove it to school. I'm not sure what happened after that, just that it went into storage at one point in time. I found the car down the street from me. A guy who buys and sells old cars had it. He has a 73 gt himself. The weber setup was giving me problems, so I changed it out to a nos weiand intake and a rebuilt holley 350 to make it more drivable.
