Split bumpers??

Postby nutt » Tue Feb 24, 2015 8:55 pm

So, I've got a running ad on CL for vega parts...yeah I know, just open the dough-ball door. I just received a request for split bumpers so I responded, "no, I only have full bumpers"......a minute goes by, then a response, "okay, thanx anyways". I informed him/her that chevy never offered split bumpers, they were hacked out of an original full bumper with the hacking device of choice. Still waiting for a response...........

I've had arguments with people who insisted that someone they knew had a Vega with split bumpers from the factory. Then there are those who had a sleeved engine from the factory, an M-21 trans from the factory, a convertible, etc, etc.

We've all had that conversation at a car show or cruise with the guy who swears that his wife's cousin's neighbor's friend had a "factory V8 Vega". A myth no doubt propagated by the fact that pretty well every Chevy dealership in North America bolted one or more together for themselves or preferred customers. Even up here in the Great White North there were a few, including a 1980 Monza Spyder that had a GM "Targetmaster" 350 crate motor installed before delivery. Customer wanted a V8 Monza, but missed the order deadline for the 1979 model year. So they ordered in a V6 one and swapped motor and trans right off the transporter. Probably ended up with twice the HP of what it would have had with a factory installed 305.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....
