Gm made Vega El Camino

Postby lleelduo » Fri Jul 03, 2015 8:55 am

This is off the GM Photo Store. A factory made car. They thought about it.

I've seen conversions before, never knew the factory tried it too. The B pillar needs some work to look nicer.

Maybe that was the inspiration for the old Chevvy Luv?

looks photo shopped to me. It has no "gmphotostore" logo and I couldn't find it on the site http://www.gmphotostore.com/Chevrolet-i ... s/1309/4/0

I pulled it from the dealer only side of the Photo Store. It was under the truck and bus section. that is the flint engineering shop in the background. I have been there. and if you look close, It has a Michigan manufacturer plate on it.

Wow Larry! Your eyes are better than mine, I did see the Michigan plate but NO WAY I could see the "Manufacturer Plate" on the bottom, I presumed it said "Great Lakes State" as usual. I wondered if it was shot in London ON. as that is where they used to do the "Big Diesel Division" (trains, buses, and for a little while anyway, the Motorhome). It was common occurrence to see the "Manufacturer Plates" on the street here, but usually normal looking cars, (endurance/emissions testing?). I did spot something interesting a couple of years ago at the rest stop just outside of town,

and a closer shot,

, and near the same time I seen what I believe was a Suburban in a big secret bag, driving down the street near by. Harry

Harry, what gives the plate away as a 'Manufacturers Plate' is the 'M' amongst the numbers.

I had always thought it was the "M". I've seen a lot of factory pictures with the Michigan plate and the "M".

Ok Dick you have good eyes too! I had to really squint to see that "M" as that is pretty small still, I had never noticed the "M" designation I had always seen these plates.
Michigan Manu Plt.jpg
and you could own this one, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-Michigan-M ... 3cfd7b3834. There are actually a few listed right now this one was just on the top. Harry off to go buy some reading glasses for the :cuss: computer :bang:
EDIT after reading other later posts. Here are a few others I looked up just for $#!+$ & Giggles
Mich Man. Plt 51.jpg
And I have seen many of this style on both sides of the border!

And to answer Brian J's question I believe these are an ongoing situation as long as they keep building and testing cars.

Sorry Larry we've dragged this a little Off Topic :( But Thanx for the Pic's and this exercise in OEM... Things. Harry

No question with that plate. Wonder what year it changed?

If I didn't know about the "M" I would not of been able to tell on the Vega. Still very hard to see.

I may be wrong, but did not the panel deliveries in 71-2 have a low back bucket seat? and the pass side as an option? that was probably the basis of this car.
