Emblem Spring Question

Postby starfire » Sat Aug 22, 2015 6:41 pm

Hey, I'm looking to replace the small spring in the rear lock cover. It looks like this:

Other than looking at my local hardware store, I haven't really done any searching. I thought I would ask here first to see if anyone knows of a place that has these. If no one does, then I'll start looking around.

Thanks,
Alan

Interesting picture. I was wondering what type of spring was used on these lock covers.

The spring is missing on mine and is rigged together with a cotter pin. Wish I could find another lock cover. I placed a wanted add in the classifieds but no luck so far.

I was able to find a spring in a hardware store with about the same diameter and wire size, cut it to length and bend the right bends into the ends for one I have. Works good.

I took one apart not to long ago. I believe there is a cotter pin on these from the factory. Looked funny at first but after disassembling it and cleaning it up. I believe it supposed to be there. I will try to figure out what draw I put that in and take some pictures. Whoever is making the monza emblem should be selling the spring kit no/maybe????

The emblem kit comes with a new front casting but no rear lock cover assembly.

Here's some pictures of my spring on my NOS unit:

Looks like an outward hook on one end, and a flat bend on the other. I don't see a cotter pin anywhere. Maybe the Olds was different.

Found my notes. 1/2" dia, 1/2" long, .025 wire size hardware store spring.
