1975 Monza 2+2 gauges

Postby 1975monza2+2 » Sun Aug 23, 2015 6:08 pm

Was this Monza dash with extra gauges only available in 1975?

I have an assortment of original dealer brochures but I only see this dash in the 1975 brochure.

Yes, 1975 only and only in the 2+2, the Town Coupe had the later design dash.

The 75 hatchbacks have some differences compared to the later models. Some were good and some were bad, but there are a number of subtle differences that make the 75 a bit more unique. The dash is one of those things, personally I like the 75 dashes better but I am a bit biased
The floorpans have a higher tunnel because the Monza was originally designed to have a Wankel rotary engine which has a higher output shaft compared to traditional engines. The 75's had the carry over Vega solid front disc brakes and small rear drum brakes as well as the new 262 V8 engine. Later cars had some improvements like the vented front rotors and larger rear drums, also a 305 V8 was introduced. The 75's was the only year for the curved panhard bar on the rearend, later cars had the straight bar.
Fortunately most of the improvements that came on the later models could be swapped on to the 75's. Of course the 75's were the only year to come from the factory with 350 V8's if you were in California. They were in a pretty anemic state of tune producing something like 145hp but it did give you a excellent platform to build upon.

Thanks for the info guys. Interesting stuff.

I recently bought a 75 2+2 project car. Among other things I need to find an instrument panel. Guess it will be much harder to find than I thought. The one year only deal.

Yes, that was a useful link. Looks like the Vega GT dash panel is very similar to the 75 Monza 2+2. Maybe an exact match. They just use a different dash pad and different instrument cluster bezel. The gauges, radio, cigarette lighter, head light switch, wiper switch and AC/heater controls are all in the same location.

I also looked at a dash panel for a Vega base model. I think this dash panel could be used in a 75 Monza 2+2 when doing a custom made gauge panel with aftermarket gauges.

The gauges themselves in the 1975 2+2 cluster are interchangeable with the Vega GT cluster gauges. That's where I got the V8 tach and 120 MPH speedo for all the V8 Vegas I built.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....
