front engine mount question

Postby astre75 » Wed Feb 10, 2016 9:10 pm

I have the old hooker engine plate on my car,it uses like an early corvette engine mount with some tabs welded on the sides so it can sit on the perches that are welded to the front frame rails,my question is does anyone know if I get the new hooker engine mount system if it will work with the existing perches that are in place on my car. What I can tell from the pictures of the new hooker mount kit it appears that the perches that weld to to front frame appear the same. The old school hooker plate I have goes through the water pump, maybe be someone can respond to my question would be greatly appreciated :D

Hey Smiley ty for a response, the motor is out of the car right now so the only picture I could put on is the two perches in the engine compartment,It does appear from what I can tell in the installation instructions for the new style mount that the perches in question are installed pretty much where mine are in my carand they do look the same, the reason for changing is I don't like the plate in between the block and water pump,I have had to fix the holes where the water pump bolts through the plate once already and the other day I pulled the plate out to paint it and the plate is broken on the torque side of the engine plate right beside where the water pump sits.I think it is just time to re-place,unfortunately I'm in canada and it is always harder to get this stuff,on that note if anyone reading this has the hooker part #12608 mount kit for sale I would be interested,it's to bad the dollar exchange is so terrible right now. :bang:

It sounds like you possible have a front motor plate rather than the hooker mount. I am not that familiar to be honest but since no one posted.

This is a generic front plate that uses the water pump bolts, as far as I know, the hooker mounts do not use the water pump bolts. That could be
why hooker was unable to help you.

The top is a generic front motor mount plate the bottom picture is the hooker mounts.

The Hooker Kit uses the two upper water pump bolts, and may need reworking depending on the brand of water pump you use.
Transdapt #4686 is a copy of the hooker kit
some ebay sellers will ship it to CA

here are some pics of the engine plate that was in my car ,,I bought the new hooker kit to replace this plate cause if you notice in the one pic I have posted the plate is cracked right beside where the water pump goes.I'm pretty sure this was what hooker made for the vega back in 1977,that is when my car was V8 converted.I'm just leaving in the frame perches that are still installed in my car, with the new hooker front mount, the mounts that are welded in my car from 1977 are way beefier than the new ones that came with the new hooker front kit I just purchased.

that plate that was used back in the day is just an early corvette mount with some tabs welded on to extend to the vega frame rails.
