Cosworth info wanted

Postby ol55 » Thu Jun 16, 2016 9:21 pm

Looking for parts and came across a Cosworth. Little info except has some front body damage. Any suggestions on what to look for to determine saving it or parting it? Value range?

Thanks,

I would say the first thing to check is the condition of the chassis and the mounts for the suspension. Hard to give a value range without pictures, mileage.

Thanks Dick
Is the 4 speed trans in the '75 Cosworth the same saginaw as my '73?
Were the Cosworth rears posi?
Engine has been sitting. Did they have the newer block or the older block?

The trans will have a different tail housing since the Cosworth had a torque arm. Not sure of the gear ratio's, Cosworths have a 3.11 first gear. Posi was an option, not all had it. All Vega blocks are virtually the same with the exception of later blocks having a boss in the middle lower passenger side which was machined for a crankcase breather tube on CV's and a small passage, either cast or machined, between the free standing cylinders allowing some coolant passage.

Larry,

I am a former Regional Director of the (Cosworth Vega Owners Association (CVOA). So, besides our site here (H-Body.org) You should contact the CVOA. To have full access to the CVOA site, you will have pay a membership fee. Between H-Body.org and CVOA you will have all the support you may need. Besides the engine and trans being different in these cars, there are other significant differences, also. If you have never worked on Cosworth-Vega before, you need to learn about the cars before tearing into them, especially the engine.

Best of luck,

John

There is also a Cosworth Vega Facebook page that you can join. The old Yahoo Group site is pretty dead today but has many years of conversations on virtually all aspects of the CV, about 14-15 years worth. If you have other questions I'll do my best to answer them or find someone that can.

Thanks for the info. Per Dick's suggestion, I looked underneath the best I could and the underbody is undercoated an looks to be in much, much better shape. Same with engine bay, windshield, and hatch.

Now, "what to do"?

No title, he has the number plate but not sure it goes with thr car. Interior (White) is filled with parts and not sure if all the parts are there. Especially Cosworth dash. Seat backs are off so assume build sheet is gone. Wheels are not gold -GT?
Engine is out with no timing belt cover. No trans.

Until I figure out what I am doing, you may want to post an ad in the "wanted section".

If you have the VIN # I might be able to help out a little. I have access to the CVOA Registry. If you have the dash number, that would be helpful as well.
Thanks,
