Fitment

Postby Greybeard » Sun Jul 24, 2016 10:20 am

Yesterday, I found out about an engine tranny combo from a wrecked 2016 Denali. 11k miles, all alloy engine, and an 8L90e gearbox, and a very good price.
I know the LS engines are finding there way into our cars, but will these trannies fit? What problems can you see?

Greybeard the 700R4, 4L60/65/70[E]all need a little tunnel lovin' from a BFH to fit, so with that in mind I am thinking that an eight speed from a truck [the 80 and 90 series trannies are roughly derived from THM400 sized parts] will be a BIG tranny to fit in a Small car! I don't remember if your car has a stock style floor or tube frame based floor a sheet metal [the latter] floor will be more forgiving for the size, I would love to tryout the "Eight" speed personally I think you should take a look at it and then judge this from there yourself, that would make a nearly perfect "cruiser" but I suspect at some cost to your drag strip times as it comes out of that Denali, but the LS has tremendous room for growth power wise even without giving up drivability. There has been a little support for this conversion in the recent past [LS not that tranny] but these are all based on a more or less stock beginnings and I seem to recall yours isn't a very stock based car. Correct my memory and again judge from there. Harry And a few places to look for more: https://www.google.ca/search?sitesearch ... WijwTVypUo

I don't know if you have seen the Denali but many of them came with 4WD.

Dick, I would figure most, at least around here. That wouldn't be a show stopper as the tail shaft is usually the same length and spline count as the short tail stock when used on the 700R4,s [including descendants] and the THM 350's and 400's. I don't know for certain on the newest styles. But thanx Dick as I didn't even consider that when I posted this to GB. :dunce: [we need a good head slap "Smiley"] Harry

My car has a 2x3 welded in subframe, and a cage, but the floor pan is untouched otherwise. About the 4x4. I was under the impression that they all were, but this one is not. I think he told me it was 405hp, and with a small cam and some time on the Dyno there would be a lot of power there. And how many fricken over drives does an 8 sp have :?. Any hoo. I'm not sure I want to cut the car up. There's a ton of locals here that will snap this up when word gets out, so I need to decide now. Make for a neat cruiser.

Well, the worry is over. Somebody snapped it up. I spent some time on an fbody forum and those guys are trying to find ways of getting the tranny in their cars. I shoulda bought it and resold the tranny, although my friends were all antsy to take their plasma cutters to my car and "make it fit!". Coulda been fun with paddle shifters. I did find that the tranny had a learning program and many peeps had to take their trucks in to get reprogramming done.
