1967 Chevelle clutch linkage question

Postby Bill K » Thu Aug 11, 2016 5:37 pm

My Chevelle has an automatic transmission. I will be converting to
a 4 speed manual trans. My question involves the clutch "Z" bar pivot
ball location on the 350 currently in the chassis. The block has
(2) 1/2"-13 tapped holes located above the oil filter mounting.
Which mounting location did Chevy originally use, the front or rear
hole to mount the pivot ball. I need to know so I can correctly weld on the
frame mount for the other end of the "Z" bar. If I weld it in the wrong location
my clutch linkage geometry will be off.
Thank you in advance.

Your block should only have 1 hold drilled and tapped, your bellhousing may have an additional hole. You'd use the hole in the block.
How'd you find the pedals, that's a 1 year only gig.

The correct hole is the upper one near the bellhousing flange.
Edit:- I just did some googling to check my answer, and now I'm not 100% sure. Some blocks have as many as 3 different tapped holes, and which one to use is determined by what chassis the engine is in.

I thought the rear hole was the one to use I was not sure.
The bell housing has no tapped hole, but the block has 2 holes about
5" apart.
The pedals were easy to find, the correct rod connecting the
Z bar to the pedal was a challenges.

all H-bodies use the cable clutch linkage so you may get a better answer on a chevelle or regular chevy forum about z bar linkage pivots
like here : http://www.chevelles.com/forums/33-tran ... repop.html

The pivot ball has to go in the rearward hole, close to the 2nd Bellhousing-to-Block bolt on the left side. If the pivot goes anywhere else on a Chevelle it will interfere with the exhaust manifolds

Thank you to all of you. We have all had cars other than the H body.
