Drag Raced my Vega on Sunday

Postby EVL VEGA » Wed Sep 07, 2016 3:45 pm

Finally got a full 1/8th mile pass in the Vega.
I drove 20+ miles to the track. Didn't use nitrous this time out.
Ran a best of 6.86 @ 100.8 and best MPH of 102. My reaction times are shi# so that didn't help. Pulled the wheels when launching on my sportsman pro tires.
My old best time was 6.99 on a 100HP shot of nitrous. Happy with my AFR Eliminator 210 heads.
It was a fun day and my brother in law even brought his monster camera out and got some good shots of the car.

Great pictures and good times. I'm impressed that you drove it there (and back I hope).

Hah..yes i made it there and back. Wife was driving my pickup with gas, tools, chairs, etc.
I don't have a trailer but in case of disaster at track I do have AAA with 100 mile tow.

Car looks great all lettered up! You drove it to the track, lifted the front tires and made it home. Cant ask for much more!

nice job EVL. looks like you had a good day. the 6.8 1/8 mile converts to aprox 10.8 in the 1/4 mile. damn good for a street driven car. keep up the good work. art

Actually due to elevation and air density at this track it's 10.5 or 10.4.
Hope the nitrous gets me kicked out for safety.
Thanks Art it was a good day.
I even had my wife and daughter with me.

Thanks. I designed and installed all the lettering and sponsor stickers myself. They're 70's period correct logos. I love the 70's pro stock and funny car look.
I swear I've gotten more thumbs up since i put the stickers on a while back than the previous 12 years i owned the car combined. People seem to like it.

heyevl. when you get to the 9 second mark, they come right over to congratulate you and then read you the riot act. they are always watching the cars that go fast, you will need all new racing duds and some new welds to your chassis. keep on trucking and have fun art

Yes sir..at 6.39 in 1/8..9.99 in 1/4 i'll not only need new racing duds (jackets, pants, gloves, neck collar) I'll need to get my cage recertified (it was certed to 7.5 in 1/4), a window net, NHRA license, i think a closed face helmet. Might even be missing some other stuff.

That means i want to stay at 6.40 or above.
