Backseat seat belt ideas? 4 point ok?

Postby Boostedvega » Mon Sep 12, 2016 7:13 pm

1971 Vega

The original owner removed the rear seat belt. Im adding it back in and I figured i would go ahead and brace the original area. BUT it looks like they came with only two point mount.

Are they only lap belts?

I carry my kids with me and occasionally maybe a passenger.
My kids are still in carseat so lapbelt is fine as they have 5 point in their car seat.

but passenger is a bit of a concern for me as its really close to the front seats and i have a cage cross brace in front of the back seats(which im thinking of removing since its a street car anyways)

I was thinking adding back a regular lap belt. But since it has a rear strut tower cross bar maybe add an additional 4 point for shoulder support?

Ive also consider fabricating a mount for a 3 point retractable but 4 point + lapbelt seems better?

what do you guys think? ideas welcome.

Thank You

Boosted Yes they came with only lap belts, as did most cars until into the '90's for domestic, Volvo far earlier than that IIRC There are many choices for aftermarket seat belts for "Retro-fitting" Like these:http://www.retrobeltusa.com/product-p/rb-7477v-xxx.htm these are what looks like an OK replacement for the front of my Monza but I think you could probably fit these in the rear, give them a call or eMail and see what they say. They have others as do other suppliers, including J.C. Whitney, Summit, and the likes. Harry few add on's https://www.summitracing.com/int/search ... at%20Belts http://www.jcwhitney.com/jcwhitney/text ... pid=100001
